@Gina I started only browsing Reddit by adding the "new" feeds of a handful of subreddits to my RSS reader. That way I don't have to deal with the algorithms.Going to watch that too when I get a chance, then I might be inspired to delete the feeds also.

@mike @Gina Honestly, it depends on the community. I read and comment on shows that ended 4 years ago (which is considered ancient in the age of bingewatching), or a 6 year old game. People still see and play stuff (one of my favorites is r/patientgamers). I avoid drama and other stupid subreddits. I also joined some tech ones, found some good softwares through it.If you choose the communities well, you can have a good experience.Just don't join r/aww, because you will lose hours. :)

@Gina Nice! The key is finding something useful to do with the extra time. I've quit almost all social networks except mastodon and twitter, and unfollowed a lot of ppl that were dumping posts for the sake of posting. That extra time went for family, friends and sportive activities. Such waste of one's finite time on this earth on useless, meaningless activities that have no value whatsoever. True happiness is not "online" 😀

@mike @Gina For me it was easier to be on reddit because I could search by topic. reddit basically had everything.I’m still adjusting to Fosstodon after coming from reddit. Don’t really know who to follow that likes and posts about comments that I do. I’m hoping Lemmy will be successful enough that I can start using it tbh

@mike @GinaI don't know why many people consider Reddit infamous or interesting. I have heard many opinions that antisemitic or something, but in fact most subreddits ban even AnCap, which isn't rasist. They have paranoia about that topic.They have some subs I like, but these are niche, no enough people to become cancerous like other parts of that site. I'm not a Nazi, I already can imagine these questions after this post.

@mike @Gina I found the comments desirable to read mostly when I didn't know what to think about the main post. But usually they disappointed me. Reddit has a definite flavor to its culture, which is bitter and jaded. It reminds me of the 90s.

Reddit can be used without an account and with an "install the app/continue on browser" pop-up. I recommend creating a container for it on Firefox so that it only knows your IP and not browser history for other sites.Complement it with VPN and you are in better shape.@mike @kev @Gina

@Gina I use Slide, the Android app, whenever I need to browse Reddit. I don’t have an account, the app lets me browse subreddits I find interesting, without ad or algorithm to make me stay on the platform, and lets me bookmark subreddits. What else to ask for ?I rarely open the app :)

@murtezayesil @mike @kev @Gina True. But in mastodon or Lemmy (which is the reddit of fediverse) you can choose your community. Reddit is everybody together. Plus reddit is closed source and ad/data driven.
