Syncthing just passed my "teach a friend who isn't afraid of tech but isn't necessarily a techy to use it" test with flying colors!I flippin love Syncthing, I am finding myself creating shared folders with friends that create stuff and the simplicity of just having a folder with a bud that when you drop a file in it zooms over to their computer is wonderful. I mean I imagine if I didn't have a raspberry pi as a mini cloud I would have a lot more problems but raspberry pis are super cheap soo

@drq @grainloom @sireebob I still have yet to really give irc a good try, I have no idea why.I probably should since I really have a huge aversion to entering any more corporate silos.

@Alonealastalovedalongthe IRC is almost dead, for better or for worse.I like Jabber better. It's almost dead too, but with recent work on new standards like audio and videocalls, its renaissance might yet follow.@grainloom @sireebob

@Alonealastalovedalongthe After all, don't forget: the Fediverse has also basically flatlined by 2015. And then Mastodon and ActivityPub came along and ripped up the floors in this shit.@grainloom @sireebob

@drq @grainloom @sireebob I just hope that mastodon dominating in usage doesn't end up killing the potential of the fediverse

@Alonealastalovedalongthe It didn't. In fact, it galvanized it. Everything thanks to it.If there was no Mastodon, there'd be no Peertube, no Funkwhale, no Write.as (as a federated service at least), no Pixelfed, and no Misskey. Those were all inspired by Mastodon.Yeah, there would still be Pleroma, but without Mastodon, it would have nothing to compete against - and get better against, which is a good kind of competition. There would probably be still Hubzilla, but it's unwieldly, and like early Unix, in order to use it, you have to either know what you're doing or be a fanatic.GS and Friendica were plain dying. But Friendica in fact gained a few users since Mastodon released, because some people want more than just microblogging. So, Mastodon is good influence. I like it.@grainloom @sireebob
