Reading with interest about last week’s significant election in not always significant “little Montenegro”, Balkan country of 2/3 of a million.For the first time since independence, Milo Đukanović’s Democratic Party of Socialists, successor to the Montenegrin Communist Party, lost. With a minimum majority of 41/80, three parties—For the Future of Montenegro, Peace is Our Nation, and In Black and White—intend to form a new coalition.Good? In recent years DPS became cravenly pro-NATO and pro-EU, but lost some support in Brussels from corruption. Finally alienated too many voters by taking property from the Serbian Orthodox Church to bestow on the schismatic “Montenegrin Orthodox Church”.For the Future of Montenegro has made some pro-West concessions but remains more pro-Serb and pro-Russia than DPS. @CharlesSynyard When I first heard of "Montenegro" in the 2006 World Cup, I thought it was a joke. To this day, I haven't conjured up the willpower to look up why it's called like that. What I mean is, it sounds Spanish, but it's nowhere near Spain and I don't know what other languages are around there that would produce such a name.Sure, I could've used the time I took to write this comment and instead look up Montenegro; but here we are.
