That 'mechanistic' frame of mind is no doubt a product of broadcast media (and other factors like education), irrespective of its content, inculcating them with the same expectations from the rest of their life as they are being given there, deriving ultimately from a learned sense of helplessness that is necessary to keep the current cycle churning along. Unfortunately the Web isn't -that- different, and where it is, it's usually to people's detriment. On the upside, when it is inevitably taken over, its successor will likely bring the rest of the system down with it.

@luke Honestly, I firmly believe in that The System™, as obese and unsustainable it has become, might be too huge to sink, as long as it has enough money to sustain itself, and it already makes probably 30000% more than it really needs to.And I also believe that one can't really fight against the system (and score a definite win) if they are still part the system. Well, if those young anarchist revolutionaries asking a five-mil company to print them shirts about how they hate companies is of any indication, anyway. It's kind of ridiculous.That, and we have some really... aged people who need nothing in their lives aside from a min wage job to keep them fed and a few hours of TV time.I don't wanna bootlick the current situation, I'm just trying to be realistic here, and, while I don't doubt this industry of expendable men will eventually go down, imma say it's not a question of "if", but rather a question of "when" and "what the actual fuck is gonna happen *if* the system tumbles down and crashes completely".I mean, okay, going to the countryside is a very good compromise between using small-scale and industry-dependant stuff all to the countryguy's benefit, but even the village residents have to rely on electricity in one way or another, so... I dunno, the future's gonna be scary either way.

@klovid_19@phreedom.tk You're right on the pragmatism approach of "it's not perfect yet it still functions". I think despite how it'll evolve it'll still exist, just differently. Like you i don't think we can fight our structures. Only crisis can ParadigmShift2070™ the mega-structure and thus the majority of people imho. Until then, i think urban areas are nests of dependance, epidemics potential, brutality when resources start lacking.As for the industrial dependance of the countryside, right, but it's actually way less dependant than urban areas relatively. Considering you have a proper water source nearby, you resources to heat, eat and since you've grown less dependant on some modern day abondance comfort, you can learn to live without electricity, internet, transport when it start lacking. Also, consider that people are usually less selfish in those areas when helping each other is required. While in towns we have hordes of domesticated employees unstacking yearly stocks of toilet paper (parodying here but you get the idea).We're not there yet, but consider the tolls urbans/concentrated areas paid in time of crisis through History. I agree the future is scary, maybe that fear can lead to better planning of it.
