Cloudflare outage. Just happened.Maybe Cloudflare should cease their attempts to centalise (and therefore control) the internet.Fix your product.

To any Cloudflare customers: can you toggle between reCAPTCHA / hCAPTCHA? Who decided this was a good idea? What happened to privacy, Cloudflare?

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/technology/cloudflare-drops-googles-recaptcha-due-to-privacy-concerns/Among the things Cloudflare's CEO Matthew Prince added to hCaptcha 'pros' column, he mentioned that the new CAPTCHA provider:• doesn't sell personal data• has similar or better performance (both in speed and solve rates)• provides a robust solution for visually impaired and other users with accessibility challenges• supports Privacy Pass to reduce the frequency of CAPTCHAs• works in regions where Google is blocked• has a responsive support team

@abloo @resynth1943 I don't think anyone is debating that. But if you're going to be subjected to CloudFlare, it'd be nice to not be subjected to Google, again.

@abloo @resynth1943 #Google /charges/ #CloudFlare for using #reCAPTCHA. #hCAPTCHA /pays/ #CloudFlare for using hCAPTCHA. This is why the original switch, which #gitlab.com also did. Then Gitlab switched back and forth twice, & hCAPTCHA breaks in a variety of ways. So I guess the low quality of hcaptcha is the issue.

@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo I know about the reCAPTCHA charge thing. Seems like Google has enough training data for their AI models.I tend to stay away from GitLab. It really does make it painful to use, especially with a less-known browser.

@resynth1943 > What happened to privacy, Cloudflare? As if they would have any care for privacy, they actively work against it.

@lanodan Agreed.I hope the future of the internet isn't Cloudflare...Honestly we need to get the regulators in. This shit is controlling 30% of the internet.

@resynth1943 i boycott #gitlab.com as well. When I find bugs on apps for which the bug tracker is on gitlab.com, I do not report it. Anyway, the change to #reCAPTCHA is favorable. Since CF is more evil than #Google, it's better for CF to pay Google than for CF to get paid by hCAPTCHA.

@resynth1943 So, it was all just a PR stunt to make them look good in terms of privacy?

@resynth1943 Oh hell no 😢 hCaptcha was quite easy to solve. Now I have to avoid these pages again as I won't unblock this Google shit.I guess it's time to move my own pages to KeyCDN soon.

@resynth1943 I just wanted to check their blog if they have any reasons for this very bad decision but they're still using hCaptcha here, see screenshot.Maybe reCaptcha is a fallback when hCaptcha is unreachable what could have been the case yesterday during the backbone failure.

@resynth1943 never heard of hcaptcha before, but it looks REALLY good in comparison to reCaptcha. Could be open-source, of course, but is also good as it is.
