@Gina you can move back the address bar to the top in the options, that may help a bit 😅

@Gina I don't like being the user who complains about change just because it's different, so I gave the latest Firefox on Android an honest try. I used it on my devices for several days. Then I simply gave up and moved to Vivaldi. The combination of really annoying interaction flows, removing about:config and so on, made it death by a thousand pecks for my personal user experience. Perhaps I'll return, but not today.

@Gina I settled on icecat mobile a while ago (when there was no Firefox for android available yet) and found it very usable! It's basically the free build of the last Firefox ESR version...

@Gina you can put back the search bar to the top and define you search engine but you get quickly over it.

@Gina they do a lot of their financing with the Google search integration. Even if I hate Google, I see the necessity of financiation. And as long as you are able to change that, I think it's OK...

@Gina I also hate Google, but it's important to have finnantion. I don't really see that annoying having to change the default search engine.

@Gina the new Firefox requires some getting used to. But it's way better and way faster than the old version. There are some things they should have waited on before launching though.

@Gina “The customers of the Mozilla Corporation are not the users of Firefox (among whom you may count yourself). The Mozilla Corporation’s customers are large corporations like Google that pay for things that will help them make money, most notably having their Internet search service be the default in the Firefox browser. And to complete the old saying, “If you’re not the customer…”, then the 200+ million Firefox users are the product, potential viewers of ads served up by Google or others.”

To be fair, there's some good stuff to mention as well. The mobile browser looks a lot more like the desktop browser and it has more features now.

@Gina where did you get this update? There's nothing on @fdroidorg and I checked Google Play's website and last update was for 7 days ago.

@arh @Gina @fdroidorg I think they are rolling it out gradually by region, but 7 days ago sounds about right for when I got it from G. Play here in Thailand. My main peeve is I can't turn off web fonts any more. I even filed a feature request to make a better version of that, but it got misunderstood and closed: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/13375

@Gina Oh c'mon. Give it a try.I, too, failed to remember the "q="-URL for startpage (there is one!). Currently, I'm testing duckduckgo which should be as good. Please note that I'm using startpage as default search service for many years so far.

@Gina is that startpage.com search entry there marked as invalid because the '%s' for the query is missing in your entry or because it can not be configured?

@Gina I know it's not the main point but I'd like to ask you why you choose startpage as your search engine. I've never heard of it before and just looked up a bit of info about it. To me it looks like it focuses on privacy, like Duckduckgo, and I'd like to know why and how it's better/different

@honiden because Startpage uses Google results on the background, which just worked a bit better than Duckduckgo's own search results.

@Gina I got interested and installed Firefox yesterday (since it's Thursday now) and have tested the new version since then.Like you said later after your first toot about the update, Firefox for Android does looks and works more like the desktop version which I absolutely like. I am all up for this update, especially when DuckDuckGo was in the list of search engines.
