We need to go back to when people had their own hand-crafted websites. Nowadays it's all just soulless social media profiles and WordPress themes.

Most sites I know have multiple pages so what about header, footer, menu? How are you going to achieve it without html generation?

@literally.hitler@videos.lukesmith.xyz Take a look at this video on the marked time, you can use display grid to stick a footer at the bottom and make the main content fill all the available space. https://youtu.be/qm0IfG1GyZU?t=380

@eliseuvideira@videos1.eliseuvideira.com She's talking about content layout using modern fancy CSS while I was talking about the content itself. If you build your website around static html files you need to somehow manage common content (like headers and footers). Two ways that come to my mind are either duplicate them or load them through using iframes. Both are stupid.

@cinnabarowl@tube.privacytools.io @royaljelly@videos.lukesmith.xyz I'm going to commit some GNU/Jihad. Emacs wasn't born an OS, it was extended into one. VI just sucked so bad people didn't what it as an OS. Emacs was just so great people wanted it to do everything. Emacs is better! That is just a fact!

@lainos@video.autizmo.xyz @royaljelly@videos.lukesmith.xyz I agree, Emacs is a great OS - it lacks a good text editor though. ๐Ÿ˜‰...Yes, I know this joke is older than we are, but still good. ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป

@cinnabarowl@tube.privacytools.io @royaljelly@videos.lukesmith.xyz You know Why Emacs was made into a great OS? Because it was a great text editor. Emacs was such a good text editor that people wanted it to do everything.

@literally.hitler HTML was more or less intended to be delivered from a web server, so yeah you can't do this on systems that won't allow you to control over Apache or ngnix, it's not used or known as much but it is something to keep in mind without using more complicated tools like using PHP to deal with the header/footer problem or having to run a shell script to generate 'finished' HTML pages as Luke does it with his blog script and so on.
