Silliness…Coyotes are bigger than foxes, yes.But nobody suspected what a few generations of natural selection in heavily urban environments would do…The urban fox, widely regarded as small, cute, and harmless thrived by getting smaller and cuter with every generation…While the urban coyote, widely regarded as being big and scary thrived by getting big enough that nobody really wanted to bother with them…So by the 22nd century, the average urban fox could easily ride between the ears of the average urban coyote. Both also got more intelligent and social, so soon they started teaming up and small foxes would sneak in and unlock things from the inside while large coyotes removed larger barriers and helped with the heavy lifting…#macro #micro

Any details of how the human population might have to deal with finger-long foxes sneaking into the mailbox and eavesdropping on phone calls to pick up banking and other personal information that they can use to open credit cards and get burner phones to get an Internet connection or order takeout…("Hi. I've got a …Sichuan Vole, extra rare for Mx. …Ray N. Ardhe?")Or trying to go to work in the morning and finding a coyote smiling down at them, holding their car between their forepaws until they ransom it with last night's leftovers…Is left as an exercise for the reader.(As is the social dynamics between urban and rural variants of each species.)

Also, generally, I think the idea of a small population of /very small/ humans on a planet of intelligent, friendly, theriomorphic animals who hang out for friendly company and trade fancy fingerwork for transportation (read: critter-back rides) is awfully cute.
