Is Avatar actually any good or is it a bunch of wacky calarts face 2000s desperation that tiptoes around sensitive topics in its quest to vaguely analogue earth cultures and ultimately burns out in a "fuck it, let's pander to yuri fans"?

@brother I could write an essay on how the show teased a wonderful ending and took it away to give you a less good ending. It made me angry. The sequel really missed the mark though, it does the shit writing trick where you make a compelling villian by giving them a cause that actually makes sense, but then woops they actually just want to murder thousands of people to get there, guess we don't have to do any good story writing or portray anything morally interesting. The sequel has good world building though.

@brother Mmm... in a non spoilery way? The whole show is about balance, really, and I felt like it backed off at the last second form embracing the most uncomfortable element of the balance of nature: death. Don't get me wrong, the ending is still good from a story perspective, I just get really hung up on death morally and philosophically so I was crushed to not get what I wanted. It's worth watching. Good show, 8.5/10 if you're not obsessed with death, 7/10 if you are.

@brother BBEG is a bit flat characterization wise but he's surprisingly very background. The main cast is good.Like a lot of kids shows that are surprisingly good, it's more about personal growth than violence. It's more of a man vs self story than man vs man.

@amy Alright, that doesn't sound too bad I guess. Maybe we'd have been divided on the ending to Gurren Lagann too, lol (though I shouldn't spoil why)
