So apparently river tubing/boat tubing is not a thing in the UK. Is this true??? UK spinsters: do you not know the joy of tubing?

I just googled it and that's what I'd call 'donutting' which is pretty popular on dry ski slopes but I've also done it down a river in the SW of england. idk how popular it is though @theAVclub

I realize you guys might have a different name for it river tubing: you float down a river on a floatie for hours and get horribly sunburnt. Boat tubing: you take an inner tube out of a semi, attach it with a long cord to a boat and then proceed to get dragged at wild speeds around a lake/in the ocean until you fall off.

@SionnachRua ohhh. Here lots of people own boats. It's kind of a working class/middle class thing.

@Funsizescot1975 @theAVclub I was going to say it's not a thing in the UK but trip advisor reckons it is! I think culturally we all think of rivers as either freezing, filthy, a toss between too tiny to bother with and lethally fast/deep and not particularly accessible.Boating is sort of a thing, but it definitely is more of a rich people thing.

@Robotpuppy That was my thought. I mean up here in the soggy north we do have huge Lochs and the such but I donโt much fancy taking a dip in any of them, freezing cold even in the height of what we amusingly call summer! @theAVclub

@Funsizescot1975 @theAVclub Yup, it's cold and there's rats. And rats piss. And that rats piss disease. Lots of rowing though, especially in the home counties. And there's always people along the canals.

@theAVclub Google tells me a second hand speed boat is about $10k, then there's all the fees. Not sure if it's just my experience but everyone I k ow who had speed boats were Protestants/ from the northern counties. Then theres the fancy Dubs with their little yachts in the harbours

@SionnachRua I dunno, we never owned one but lots of people here are fishers/spend lots of time on the water. In the cities you have to be rich to own one cause of docking ect. But people outside the city just have them under a tarp on their yard or on one of their driveways. Or live on a lake and just keep it there. I mean, everyone outside the cities has massive trucks, atvs, skidoos etc.

@theAVclub Yeah trucks aren't a thing here - tradespeople have vans, farmers have jeeps people who live near the sea/lakes tend to have small boats called currachs which you can stick a motor on but wouldn't really work for water sports

That is very sad cuz tubing is wonderful fun. In the winter if we have snow we do it with 4 wheel drive trucks and giant inner tubes. @theAVclub

@theAVclub this sounds epic! Yea we don't really do either type of tubing in the UK. But most of us know about the last river type, I've done it on holiday but that was back when I was a kid
