@tinfoil-hat @brandon It's really kinda hard to name it. There sure are packages missing to be completely satisfied and there are same problems that appear now and then, but in the end I always make it work. Maybe I would like it a lot less if I had to do actual work on it, I don't know. It seems compact/effective like BSDs, but fun to tinker with; simple like elementary, but doesn't get in the way if you want to get your hands dirty. πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

@albi @Blort Considering that not only does it serve a fundamentally different purpose, it's provided by a different developing organization, that it provides a different experience entirely, and has a modified package base and kernel, no, they would not be considered the sameThey are different enough

@albiIt pretty much is as you described. That doesn't stop it being the best self hosting distro in my book though, in a way that straight Debian isn't. If we're going to call Yunohost just Debian with extra server software though, then really Kubuntu should also be called "just Ubuntu" with a set of desktop environment and apps added. Then again, maybe Ubuntu is "just Debian" with stuff added, too...@brandon

@Blort @albi The *ubuntu variants are all considered the same in this collection considering that they are (almost) the same package set, save for the desktop environment.Ubuntu isn't "just Debian" as they not only have a different developing organization, changes made to Ubuntu's package set are not at all dependent on Debian's release schedule.

@BinaryUnit quite interesting, the results I'm seeing, but I've also had to make some executive decisions about like, Ubuntu variants all equate to Ubuntu, which derivatives of what are counted as another thing, and what I just won't accept :pExample someone said Debian GNU/Herd. I nipped that in the bud and just called it Debian.

@brandon I couldn't go for 3! Mine is just Debian + i3.I wish I could use Alpine or maybe Arch, I've tried to put some time on installation and it didn't go well. But the thing is I've been using Debian for a long while and i3 for around one year. It's neat and I can do my work just fine with it.

Phew, through about half of the responses damn. This data's gonna be hard to clean up in an efficient way. Might be worth retyping manually in the corrected formats

@brandon I don't really have 3, I just use Raspbian (for big stuff) and TinyCore (for small stuff). I used Mint in the past before it got so bloated though.

@brandon 1. Red Hat 4.6 / 5.0 (First distro I ever used).2. Slackware - (Distro I moved onto because I got annoyed with having to pull RPMs apart when I actually wanted to do development, and compile my own versions of software (t{ar.}gz are so much easier to extract stuff from (;*))3. Kubuntu (the distro that I use now, with some compiled from source additions.)
