@starwall It makes me wonder, what else has intelligence that we've discounted? It may just be anthropomorphizing behaviour, but I've had SO many 'coincidences' with computers for example, devices behaving properly for me while acting out for others, like an iphone that would just bootloop when in its owners posession, but work perfectly fine when I held it. Or when the snow fell last year and my computer kept playing snow related tracks (selected via RNG) until I hooked up and activated my webcam and pointed it so the computer could 'watch' the snowfall... and the next track RNG selected was titled "Happy Machine"...

@starwall I know there is a lot of talk of eithics here, I'd take that up with the board of evolution. We didn't chose this, natural selection did. That said, there is definitely a connection between some people with plants and animals. Those who have that gift are green thumb. It's very apparent that plants respond to some over others. Even if they do same methods. The only thing I know is I got the gift of plants something crazy. They grow like a beast for me.

@feld @starwall Everyone seems to have their own ideas of how to do things. What's acceptable to them. That causes serious discrepancy especially when the data is flat wrong. Take for instance my "organic matter" that was in inorganic. Now I'm not one to go heavy on chemicals or anything. I'll use them when needed for stopping a problem. That is my view, I also am not afraid of chemical fertilizer. Science has proven fertilizer is fertilizer. Any problem out there you see with it? Either over application or other related issues. That's not addressing the runoff, this is just the soil itself. I've heard time and time again that worms, bacteria and organisms suffer from the use of the modern methods. Well the soil below had roundup used nearby, I had used triclopyr and aminopyralid there as well. Then I used chemical fertilizer like calcium nitrate, urea, monopotassium phosphate and such. I'd like to see a explanation of why I had such incredible biodiversity, organic matter and lush growth with these methods? Is it perhaps everyone is thinking with their ass? I'm pretty sure it is, we need science not feelings based.Want proof it's a problem? Can you even COVID? The ignored science, math and basic decency of health of humans? Well we're more obstinate about soil that ourselves. We should probably reorder our priorities a tad.

@starwall I wonder where this puts ethical points like veganism and vegetarianism. like if bees are this conscious, does that make honey an animal product that's unethical? many claim it to be, but the vast majority say na bees are mindless drones it doesn't matter. and the ethics of plants is a whole pandoras box of it's own

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall Well, vegans don't eat honey, or at least try not to. It is generally agreed to not be vegan at all. It isn't even one of the little-known/hard to avoid things, like using soap made of animal fat.As a vegetarian, I do eat honey occasionally. Veganism is just too hard for me, so I draw the line at not eating animals.

@starwall @CornishRepublicanArmy Well, I don't think they would exactly choose to have their honey taken away. :PBut yeah, certainly not the most cruel animal product. I think it is more the principle of the thing.

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall Also, vegetarians have been pondering this for quite some time. Indian religion/philosophy has some quite interesting ideas about it, though I have only glanced at it. (more on this later)Many vegetarians, though certainly not all, have considered animal consciousness and the different degrees Coming from a vegetarian family, it is the kind of thing I asked my mom about when I was a kid, for example.

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwallI have read about divergences between Buddhists and Jains on whether it was wrong to eat an animal that was not killed because of you. And there were differences between animals, with some being "more wrong" to kill than others... but particularly ascetic people still tried to avoid accidentally killing bugs. It also made allowances for necessity and so on.My point here is just to illustrate that vegetarians have thought a lot about this.

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall (I hope I didn't misrepresent anything or otherwise was disrespectful; I really know very little about Buddhism, Jainism and vegetarianism in India.)

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall I hope I didn't ramble too long, but yeah, this is the kind of thing vegetarians think about all the time. Do plants suffer? Is it wrong to eat fungi? Does this pudding contain gelatin - do I care enough to find out?Vegetarianism and veganism don't really have a single cohesive philosophical basis. Each person has wildly different ideas, possibly very wrong. But at least some have considered the awareness of bees and plants.

@CornishRepublicanArmy @starwall Oh, an interesting anecdote: the pink cookies! There is a particular food coloring that is very common, and is made by crushing cochineal bugs. Most foods that are a deep pink color use it.Well, I learned this fact as a kid, and what was my reaction? Stop eating anything that had carmine. Some cookies had colored drawings, and I would pick and avoid any that had red lines.Getting to grips with pink cookies was a formative experience for me. :P
