In today's video I share my thoughts on a blog post from Linux Mint outlining why they'll be dropping out-of-the box support for Canonical and Ubuntu's snap store.PeerTube: https://share.tube/accounts/chriswereWebsite: https://ChrisWere.uk...

100% agree. I would love to see Linux Mint to go full on Debian and become more independent.

@chriswere I like this decision, personally I don't use Mint, but any movement towards independence is often beneficial.

Well covered Chris, great video.Mint is doing the right thing, and Ubuntu is doing a shady thing IMO. Transparency, consent and user control are paramount. The only silver lining I can see is that Ubuntu shifting closer to a proprietary focused system may put the stepping stone closer to people who are on fully proprietary systems. Then once you realise you're not stuck in the Windows & MacOS dichotomy the distro hopping can begin.

@chriswere Thanks for bringing my attention to this. I haven't been keeping up with things like I used to, so this reinforces my confidence in LinuxMint as my distro, which I switched to from Ubuntu years ago.The main issue I would have with going to the LMDE version would be giving up PPAs (which unless something has changed is only available on Ubuntu-based distros). There are several pkgs I always want to have the latest version of, seamlessly delivered along with the other updates.

Authy has deprecated the browser extension which is only available for Chrome, and the only Linux version is a Snap app. I do think removing the Snap store is certainly a good idea. It *likely* will affect some people. Currently I see a lot of "available for Linux" which usually means "available for Ubuntu". Though .deb files are often able to be installed on most distributions.

Er, #Devuan is a systemd-free Debian clone. I think you may missed to type in.

@MrRawes @chriswere the whole point of #devuan is to NOT be systemd-dependant. Bad typo there.
