How many #privacy breaches does #Facebook need to suffer before people wake up? 🤦‍♂️ https://www.zdnet.com/article/facebook-says-5000-app-developers-got-user-data-after-cutoff-date/

@kev Here's my new theory:most know and have chosen the path of surveillance fascism knowingly, because the targeted advertising makes them feel special.

@kev the alternatives feel inconvenient, although they aren't. And, many underestimate the possible consequences.

@kev @hund Generally I like the idea of Facebook. It was a great thing in the beginning. However with time, their chase after the profit pushed them in wrong direction and exposed too many holes. As right now, they are too big and focused on something else rather than privacy and security.

@kev no one in my circle cares about privacy, I hate it. We can't force them tho, it's still their freedom, their choice.

@dwytemartin agree completely and have had a very similar experience.

@kev Yeah It's even worse, most of em are now also on Tiktok. I didn't do my own research but from what I've read its way worse than fb in terms of privacy and security.

@kev @dwytemartin Same here. Anytime I show my family members and sort of irrefutable privacy breach evidence or major privacy concerns they just, "I'm not really worried about it, I've got nothing to hide." I'm doing my part in trying in trying to "show them the way" while not sounding like a radical conspiracy theorist but, it falls on deaf ears. Makes me a bit sad for them.

@kev I don't particularly want to be on Facebook, but two things keep me on it:1. I don't have any other way to connect with some friends and family members2. It's how a large portion of business is conducted here, especially since the pandemic. I order all of my vegetables from a person on Facebook, for example.

@joseph I think it’s possible to use Facebook and be careful. You just have to be very very careful.I heard they ask for ID now or something to prove you’re really you? Screw that! I would never send my ID to any social site, never mind Facebook.

@kev Way too many breaches 😒I've tried to tell people the real story about Facebook, but some of them thinks it's just crazy to leave Facebook because they will not be able to hear the latest from their friends. True, but you can hear the latest by actually talk to them like the good old days, or via other social medias (like Mastodon). The other people I've tried to face the real truth just say "aha... so? They can track me how much they want - I just don't care!" Words that I sort of hate 😡

@hans "Do you have something to hide?" is a manipulative rebuke to those that use #encryption. It would help us all turn this conversation around. Because, the answer is: YES, we do have something to hide.Things that we should hide, and must question why a government or business NEEDS access to:- Medical history.- Sensitive conversations with employers, children, spouses.- Billing and banking information.- Purchase information.- Web search history.- And more...@theprivacyfoundation
