@syntacticsugarglider weird that "literally ages" in smartphone world means two yearsI've had my current phone since 2015, it's the asus zenfone 2 and I'd still use it if I'd have gotten a single update since 2017 on it. At this point I'm really concerned about the whole security of the thing and it's probably cheaper than the dead battery in it.

@syntacticsugarglider Honestly I might pull the trigger on a renewed one, it's only $260 and seems like it could last a long time. I'm interested to hear some other thoughts if anyone else has them though.

@wizard I like the OnePlus 5T and original Pixel. LineageOS, /e/, etc are currently supported on them and they're reasonably priced used.

@dokuja The custom roms are a big selling point to me at this point, I want to ensure that I'll get updates for the device for a while.

@wizard @syntacticsugarglider s9 is pretty alright, gf has one. I'd do some research on which one's hackable though, because not all of them are. also I'd throw lineage on it first thing, but that's me

@purple @null @syntacticsugarglider The lack of a replaceable battery is really off putting to me though, has anyone had any issues so far with it or should I not be concerned about having to pry the device open ever?
