@root yeah I can usually handle watching playthroughs!! like maybe it's b/c I'm one extra layer removed from what's happening in the game? also I can't really watch horror movies. Like I watched Alien one time just to test my limits I guess and I had to watch it with the sound 100% off and it was still almost more than I could handle. Which sucks b/c horror movies have such a strong magnetism! I've read the plot summaries of a lot of horror movies cuz it's just so spooky and interesting

@kimdanes omg that's so interesting, more or less star crossed with a genre lmao. but yeah i first realized it playing amnesia and having a massive shock from like early early on since i had had so much build up that i just alt f4d and never tried it again lmao but i guess even though it's like, inherently designed for the screen in the first place, since I'm not necessarily controlling or am the main character(s), it still doesn't quite reach that level of genuine fear lol

@kimdanes can only really describe it as my mind having two modes when it's experiencing horror, either analyze and learn from it, or get away as fast as possible any way possible while im pumped with adrenaline and all that really separates those is being in control of the victim or not lmao

@root damn I was actually about to ask you if you'd played AmnesiaI literally had the exact same reaction to it. I was literally petrified the entire beginning of the game that I'd encounter a monster; then when I first spotted one I was like "haha nope, I'm done" and closed the game. not worth it

@kimdanes hahahaha amazing, i never thought about it but now i wonder if that's common for others that are generally averse to at least playing horror that played at least amnesia because not only did they do an amazing early slow burn, at the same time my mind blew it up from great reviews and videos etc lol so my mind was damn near ready to believe meat flab man would come out of the monitor the second it saw me

@root ooh it'd be really nice if I could get into that mindset w/ horror moviesI'm autistic so it's like unusually hard for me to distance myself emotionally from fictional characters; like I also can't watch most sitcoms or dramas b/c the interpersonal drama & the humiliation/embarrassment-used-as-humor that those genres love, just really fucks me upsooo, maybe that's why I have trouble w/ horror movies ? 🤷

@kimdanes yeah that makes a ton of sense, and it's also what a good movie will do to give you that feeling so you care about what happens to the characters. sappy movies i hella get that lol but i guess i dont get it as hard with horror due to how often characters are frequently not built up enough for me to have a strong connection to or just not my type of person lol but i still am morbidly fascinated by this fantasy.
