After being denounced as a transphobe, I actually went out and bought a dress, and I wore it. And it didn't have pockets and it made me feel disempowered and I wondered why anyone would fight for this.

@tuxcrafting @alex Heh. I wear a Utilikilt. Every day. BIG pockets. There's one guy who hangs out with a group of homeless guys in the park, whichI bicycle past on the way to the espresso joint, who often yells, "Nice skirt." I'm tempted to stop and tell him, "Not a skeert. This be a keelt." But so far I've resisted.

@igel @tuxcrafting @alex pockets still have advantages due to storage separation, like if you always keep your knife in your right pocket and your flashlight in your left you can get to them quickly without looking. Digging around in a purse doesn't work as well, I'd imagine.

@brad @igel @alex @tuxcraftingWomen need eternities to find anything in their chaos purseI agree with the pocket hypothesis, but you can always carry a postman bag with different compartments and also access vital utilities in a timely fashion

@Kagekokoro @alex @igel @tuxcrafting A bag with separation would be good as well, though the advantage of pockets even then is that they're split further between sides. You can access the left side with your left arm and the right side with your right arm. Plus everything is within arm's reach as well. With a bag it's probably hanging on one side of you, although I don't have a clear image in mind of a postman bag.

@icedquinn @alex @tuxcrafting I'm actually mostly Scottish, on both sides, but nobody else in my family wears a kilt, except my nephew, at his high school graduation. After wearing a kilt for only a short time, I had a hard time understanding why women ever wear pants. A skirt is SO much more comfortable. But then, I don't tend to get wolf whistles, and would be likely to reply if I did, "Sorry, bud, but I don't swing that way."

@billstclair @alex @tuxcrafting I am also scots-irish :ablobcatreachrev: women wearing pants.. i dunno. one part cultural defiance and one part utility i guess.everyone used to just wear cloaks and blankets draped over their person (greek clothes) and then later we had corsetry to keep the boobies comfy and then a woman invents bras so you don't have to wear the corset and then years later bras are now a symbol of female oppression. :blobcatgoogly: the kilt was actually going out of fashion until england banned it. they would ironically be gone entirely if they hadn't botched it and scots started wearing them strictly out of spite. :blobcatlaugh:

@wowaname @igel @tuxcrafting It's a bit hard to explain, but my backpack has a cover over the zipper you have to fold back before you can unzip it. As long as you put the cover down it's impossible to not notice someone opening it. It's a timbuk2 bag, best I ever owned. Only 50 bucks somehow, when usually their bags are $100+

@alex The lack of pockets is the real oppression. No pockets means you having nothing to put your money in from your job. But once women started wearing pants they gained the natural desire to fill them with money hence they went out and tried to join the work force.
