Check out this job posting. They require 2 years of experience with Linux and servers, and the most they're willing to offer is 15k pre-taxes.Housing in my area is at least 600 € monthly for a really shitty place.

@0x00 That's insane. Linux admin with 2y of experience should get you around 35-45k EUR/a before taxes.

@0x00 jobs are telecommute these days, go wide, multilingual is boon. Verifiable experience is a nice to have, rarely a hard requirement, except in very serious roles. If they think they can fill that and get that specific experience they should probably fire their HR director, or outsource...

@seven What pisses me off the most is:- Most companies won't even disclose salary until 1 minute before the end of negotiations, and that's assuming you pass all their tests and interviews.- This stupid fucker thinks they can get away with such a ridiculous stipend. Holy fucking shit. Like I said, this wouldn't even cover rent AND food.

@ultem My English may be, my technical skills are above average but probably nothing remarkable. However, my self-esteem isn't.But hey, whatever. I already have a "no". So...I already applied for a certain German company, I believe I told you so, too. Like, a few days ago. Fingers crossed. And no, it isn't yours. Or at least not yet. Maybe I'll apply there too.IDK man, I'm in a really low mood in respect to job prospects.

@0x00 Always ask for more. They aim low, you ask high. People seem scared to ask for what they are worth... Coming off good in interview does more than any paper experience you can bring in, onboarding is expected in any technical position, you can train skills, you can't train personality/culture... Good hiring managers know this in the IT industry, bad ones that just stick to the paper get ignored by talented people, and they end up with shitty tech because of it.

@ultem I really appreciate your support btw. I just need a little push.I'm sure when I get employed, my mood will skyrocket. I was so happy when I was working for a relatively small Spanish company. Pay wasn't anything to brag about, but it certainly was above 20k at the very least.I could speak to the CEO face-to-face because it was such a small company, no bureaucratic bullshit either. My direct manager trusted me a lot and let me perform my best without micromanaging me, and so on and so forth. I felt valued there. But everywhere else I just feel like a cog in a big machine. Not just because I have to submit to those overlords, but because I am nothing but an excuse for their goal. They don't appreciate employees at all.

@0x00 Well you can start there, I would say you are definitely worth being able to support yourself, thats a good number to play with and add 20% don't come down more than 15% cause you "have other offers, but thanks for your time"...

@seven 700+300 for food and bills = 1000, +tax, that would be like 16k pre-taxes EUR, and that's considering best-case scenarios and I'd still have absolutely zero savings.

@0x00 I'll add ask for what's ideal, nothing below what you need to live is worth it tbh unless you want to double up (some places have agreements that keep you from doing that). You'll just end up bitter, hating the job, and quitting anyways. True story: I once went through the process at a corp a while back, we got to the slide salary offer across the table, I started laughing, like full on belly laughing, and was like yeah no thanks and walked out. They a couple months later had to contract me (not an employee of theirs) anyways for 2 times what they offered. I was highly amused...

@seven do you really think that’s how companies operate? I once ran as the lead recruiter, although for a very short term (long story, irrelevant for now) and they were rather specific “we have x money, find us someone with y qualifications”. I don’t think they’d be willing to pay more for a candidate with additional expertise to what they requires, but I’m sure they’d pay less for someone who matches their profile (for example an immigrant or someone recently graduated with extensive informal experience but in need of a job).
