@dankwraith @brnrs what do you mean with "feverish white brain" and what is the answer to why the change is necessary?

@LogicalDash @brnrs it would be kinda bizarre if a respectable organization used "pimp" and "ho".

@LogicalDash @brnrs ugh... The article is so needlessly long-winded. And it presents claims without backing it up.

@LogicalDash @byllgrimHmm, interesting document. I'll have to read into it.To be clear, it's not that I'm opposed to the change (master -> main, trunk, whatever). I guess I'm used to master, and I'd be used to the replacement in a few days/weeks if it became commonplace. Maybe I'm lacking some specific cultural context or empathy, because I don't understand how master or slave are oppressive and don't see the value in doing anything about them.

@LogicalDash @byllgrim...I do understand the perspective that other terms would be clearer/more accurate, though.

@LogicalDash @byllgrimTo clarify, I mean I don't understand master/slave as terms, not as phenomena, being oppressive.

@LogicalDash @byllgrimhttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/236752849_Broken_Metaphor_The_Master-Slave_Analogy_in_Technical_LiteratureThis seems to be the reference for that IETF draft on the subject of master/slave. I'll read it, hope it's convincing.

@brnrs @LogicalDash I am frustrated that with so many vocal adherents it is still difficult to get a clear cut explanation of the reasoning.

@dankwraith I have a proposition for everyne n favor of changing the terminology. Write a small paragraph explaining why you are in favor, then I complain, and you revise until we both agree

@byllgrim To me it seems like it boils down to 1. It makes some people uncomfortable2. Some people empathize with the people from #13. Some people think it's inaccurateI see nothing wrong with any of these three points, although I can't really empathize with #1.

@byllgrim @LogicalDash I'm not sure that's accurate, more like it derives from a czech word for serfdom that derives from a proto-slavik word for slavery. Then again, serfdom doesn't differ that much from slavery. In Polish, which is quite similar, there's "robota" which means "work", and "robotnik" which means (physical/blue collar) worker. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/robota#Czech
