@rgx Sorry, replying from the _other_ account. It can’t be done. I can import follow list, blocked domains and a couple other things. But not my toots. Really tried to move, but this account has been here for a while, and it has an archive of toots I’d hate missing. Matt has been wonderful, and I would love to keep using, but that’s that 😔 I’ll keep using Mastodon.Social. In the end it’s the same, I can still keep up with Writing.Exchange, and follow/talk to people there. @maloki

@maique Have you seen or used the Pinafore client? I use it and have about 12 accounts configured on it, can switch easily between them, and even run two pinafore sessions, side by side - each with a different instance.I do have an account at masto social, but just visit briefly. I really must have a larger toot characters limit for any real posting.500 chars is unusual and cruel punishment.Good luck! :)@maloki

@rgx No, I have not. Will try to find it. In the end, and that’s my reasoning, I don’t need the Local timeline at M.S. I have all you guys I want to follow in my Home timeline, and that’s where I spend most of the time. No need for Local, you keep me entertained, and it doesn’t matter what instance you’re using. I can also use several accounts with Toot!, but was feeling a bit schizophrenic already 😂😅@maloki

@rgx Read it, and agree with what you’re saying. I registered users at a few other instances, trying to find that balance: shared interests, right community size, decent Local timeline. I cannot, however, maintain multiple working accounts, it’s not what I’m looking for, one will have to do. Using your cafe analogy, I travel too, and met you at cafe X, met Andreas at cafe Y, and Maloki at cafe Z. And I’m lucky that, by following you, you’re now all at MY own cafe.@maloki

@rgx From time to time I’ll still visit the cafe where I met you, and meet someone else who shares your interests and mine, and invite him over to mine (actually now it’s our!) cafe. Would be lovely to move permanently to your cafe. But the owners are saying I cannot carry my backpack inside. I have to come naked. That doesn’t work for me. Sadly. @maloki

But I still need some others for special uses. Pity that they don't make it more portable, but the problem is that every instance has data pointed to the original location, status ID, it's complicated.

@maique Agreed.But there are many things that make sense but don't get the approval from the top developers. So, they don't get done.Case in point, this 500 chars limit, it's completely arbitrary, and Eugen does all he can to keep it so.Data portability, he might not be interested in having that also, possibly.

@maique I am moving to Glitch-Social instances as much as possible. And my qoto account. we are working on moving the whole instance over to a better platform.Glitch or a Pleroma with a Mastodon front end to make it easier for people. Glitch is already much nicer.

@rgx Is there a reason behind it ? I get the philosophical part of micro blog, you have to pick a number to keep it “micro”, maybe 500 chars has some special meaning...Technical issue ? Sorry, I’m not (yet) familiar with all these issues, not ready to pick a side. What’s his reasoning ?
