@nina some points are excellent: 1. If the university wishes diversity why are black graduates and intellectuals underrepresented there 2. BLM is not the expert on EVERYTHING and why can it not be criticized. 3. Why are donations to BLM being diverted to Biden and the Dim party 4. NGO and corporate capture of BLM means it is not grassroots but SPONSORED. 5. Floyd is a victim but a LOUSY choice for a martyr And i like this "My family have been personally victimized by men like Floyd. We are aware of the condescending depredations of the Democrat party against our race. The humiliating assumption that we are too stupid to do STEM, that we need special help and lower requirements to get ahead in life, is richly familiar to us. I sometimes wonder if it wouldn’t be easier to deal with open fascists, who at least would be straightforward in calling me a subhuman, and who are unlikely to share my race. The ever-present soft bigotry of low expectations and the permanent claim that the solutions to the plight of my people rest exclusively on the goodwill of whites rather than on our own hard work is psychologically devastating. No other group in America is systematically demoralized in this way by its alleged allies. A whole generation of black children are being taught that only by begging and weeping and screaming will they get handouts from guilt-ridden whites."

@Sherri_Ingrey One of my favorite essays, "The Age of White Guilt" by Shelby Steele, was prescient 20 years ago. https://blog.ninapaley.com/2019/08/18/the-age-of-white-guilt-and-the-disappearance-of-the-black-individual-by-shelby-steele/

@nina Very interesting. I think maybe the point missing from her? his? analysis is that the reason to focus first on white racism causing problems for blacks is that's the steepest gradient of power and privilege. Which isn't to say you ignore other causes, but it is important to address the crimes of state first of all (ie police violence). That's in a badness class all its own. Next in line are the crimes of powerful people generally *because those are the largest part of the problem*, the most difficult for us social animals to address, and also the root cause of some downstream crimes committed by the unprivileged. (For instance, a lot of women in prison have male abuse in their backgrounds.)As for the other causes she or he focuses on, they exist -- there's no lack of evidence--, they're important, and should be dealt with concurrently *in ways that help the community*, not hurt it.All that said, I think the main point is that she or he feels you can't even bring these things up even though they *are* evidence-based. That's a really important point and the author is absolutely right. We need to be caring about the truth and reality, not woke points or tribal loyalty.
