Down to the last 8 CDs of the great flac-ing of 2020. Every computer with a CD drive was employed this weekend. By far the fastest at ripping CDs are the oldest - a T430 laptop, and a Dell Optiplex desktop. About 4x faster than the slowest.

@dctrud And now you have to back up that data and protect it forever.

@ataraxia937 yup, but not really an issue as already have 2 copies in the house, 1 elsewhere, for all our data we care about. We’ve always bought CDs and weren’t using streaming for that long before we decided to go without again, so it’s fine for us.

@dctrud FLAC is my favorite for archival, just magical. Retargetting to devices is easy. I just wish more apps understood single-file mult-track albums in Opus derived from FLACs.

Dalliance with Apple Music and Spotify is now at an end, and will funnel the $15 / month through bandcamp instead of having some of it go to things like exclusive deals for podcasts we have no interest in etc.

@dctrud Uh, they don't build them like they used to. 😉
