Inhouse recruiter: “Based on your linkedin profile, this position would be perfect for you.”Literally an hour later after sending in my resume that is 90% the same as my Linkedin profile:“Thank you for applying, we've decided to continue with other candidates since their profiles fit the position better.”

@Gina sounds like the recruiter just did a 'shotgun' mass-spam.If that's apparently what the company culture is like, you've lost nothing - more like dodged a bullet.Still sucks to be in that emotional rollercoaster, of course - hope you find the right opportunity soon.

@Gina sorry to hear that. I do hope it looks up better for you. May I ask, what's the black profile picture for? Is it part of the BLM thing?

@Gina Have you applied to 100s of sites all using the same candidate management software on different domains, and yet have to sign up for each on individually?Ha... ha ha... hahahaha! 🤪 Job hunting sucks. I wish you the best of luck!

@Gina Recruiters play keyword bingo. GOOD recruiters want to know about the position being filled, and review resumes against this understanding. Their fee is 3 months or 6 months salary.CHEAP recruiters play keyword bingo, and get a small fee for little effort.THE WORST recruiters look for direct recruitment adverts and try to get in the middle. When a recruiter asks for your resume, ask them to describe the position.

@Gina I made a spreadsheet last time. Organizing and correlating made me feel like I had some semblance of control in my life. It was pretty hellish toward the end.

@ndegruchy thanks for the tip. I'm barely starting to look around, and of course in the midst of the deepest recession in times.

@Gina Since I had a lot of time on my hands, I was crafting custom cover letters, adjusting layout of the items on my resume, making text only forms of my resume, making spreadsheets of who I contacted, for what, at what time, if I had a call back, if I had an interview and more. I practiced responses and questions for the interviewer. I reviewed company information and tried to research anybody I was interviewing for anything I could use to discuss with them. It was pretty comprehensive.

@Gina I'm considering deleting my Linkedin profile for this exact reason. I have a feeling it actually reduces the chances of an employer actual LOOKING at your resume, they simply use some automated algorithm instead and ironically will miss out on the best candidates.

@Gina @LPS Recruiters are among the most unscrupulous turds that have ever walked the earth. Their entire modus operandi revolved around making someone feel both helpless and dependent on their company while they pimp you out in return for meager wages as a temporary contractor instead of employee. Dealing with recruiters is dehumanizing and they are there solely to help corporations, not you. They should be put out of business.I'm not bitter. I just know what they're about.

@Gina @LPS @Citizenzibb All agree with you, I'm kind of "dreaming" about a way to federate resume/porfolio websites ... and/or a sort of ActivityPub LinkedIn 🤔

@Gina Sorry to hear that.I believe they actually don't read profiles. My about section says "not looking for a job; don't add me as friend if I don't know you, use follow". Yet here I am receiving friend requests from recruiters with the message "your profile fits an interesting position, want to talk?"
