@SDF Multi line BBSes with different numbers for each line. I'm 20 again. Loved that era. Loved it so much I wrote this a while ago. Maybe y'all will like it. https://jonwatson.substack.com/p/internet-folklore-the-cult-of-atdt

@SDF I'd love to dial in but I haven't had a land line in about twenty years. Does it have Trade Wars?

@SDF definitely not the last one in the world, but kewl indeed! I hope to finish my landline-over-IP setup soon and dial in! It will be weird, because most of the connection will be tunneled over internet, but I guess that's how the big phone companies do it as well 🙂

@sdf Hello. Are the dialup servers still working? Today I tried to dial-in for a test, but after the modem is CONNECTed, it stuck here, there's no login prompt on the screen.

@sdf Just tried dial-up again, I was able to dial into the system successfully for two times or so. Then, the problem continued - nothing received after the modem was connected. I also repeated it with Bell 103, and I can clearly hear the modem has negotiated, after that, there's nothing but a carrier. 🤔

@smj @sdf I don't think the reason behind this problem is my incorrect usage.

@SDF The long distance fees alone would break my bank.

@sdf not that I'd want to handle these costs, but would an international dial-up even work on the modern phone system? :thaenkin: I suspect international lines now have a copious amount of VoIP going on.
