@Hildegarde_de_Bingen I don't think it's just entitlement. Antifa has spent a lot of time instilling fantasies about overthrowing the state, and there are a lot of bad actor white supremacists.I'm seeing a lot of incitement. The other day, Denzel Washington stopped and helped a homeless man out of traffic in West Hollywood and stop by him until and while the cops arrived. That's heroic and empathetic, and the way TMZ reported it.The way it goes on twitter, LAPD were harassing a homeless guy, and Denzel threw himself into their path. That's picking at a scar and making it bleed to get people angry. There's enough out there that's real, but they're inciting.

@Hildegarde_de_Bingen "Remarkable info coming out of this presser: Gov. Tim Walls, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and now MN attorney general Keith Ellison ALL alleging outside forces, domestic and possibly foreign, have post-Tuesday infiltrated the state, and are"in organized fashion setting fire to historic businesses in communities of color, and causing mayhem. Ellison cited the widely circulating video of a white man in a gas mask holding an umbrella who was caught by protestors on video breaking windows."And the governor says he has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, and fully mobilized the MN National Guard for the first time in 164 years. This is a continuing story and presumably we will begin hearing it echoed in other cities."https://threader.app/thread/1266741059163389952

@LostInCalifornia @Hildegarde_de_Bingen So are these antifa mostly bourgeois white kids with a sprinkling of far right agitating infiltrators? (Of course, neither have to live in the devastation once the riots have gone. Reminds me of David Gilmour's kid at the London student fee riots.)

@AnneBevan @Hildegarde_de_Bingen Old story, grain of salt.Yesterday, I watched LAPD arrest half of a looting crew. They stopped a caravan of 3 cars, driving around after curfew, found stolen goods, and carted them off. These guys would drop looters off, drive around the block, come back and load up.If you've never heard the criminally inclined talk about a riot, "no justice, no peace" isn't part of it, but merch is.

@HebrideanHecate @LangCleg @Hildegarde_de_Bingen Robbing a small business on Melrose or looting the Gucci store doesn't have much to do with justice, even economic justice. But Antifa setting off fireworks and playing out their fantasies make it possible. There are genuine demonstrators, and then there are opportunists.

@LostInCalifornia @HebrideanHecate @LangCleg , the problem is that more than one group is causing all this damage; you've got at least two White Supremacist groups that have been *filmed* inciting violence.

@Hildegarde_de_Bingen @HebrideanHecate @LangCleg There is a large slice of the right who believes every would be peachy if cops didn't exist. The grain of salt is that there is a large slice of the left who thinks that's too.(Anti-authority is one thing. Anti-order means warlord/strong man rule.)"The “boogaloo” is code for impending civil war or violent confrontation with law enforcement, and that’s what they’re hoping to get out of the protests. Their main reason for being there is their antipathy toward law enforcement, and so they’re trying to position themselves as allies of Black Lives Matter protesters. They’ve made police brutality one of their central issues, which was explored at length in a Bellingcat article this week."Their approach to police brutality links the victims of the deadly standoff with federal agents at Ruby Ridge in 1992, to the victims of modern police brutality, including Floyd. But unlike the vast majority of protesters, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that police brutality is an issue that disproportionately impacts people of color."https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/pkyb9b/far-right-extremists-are-hoping-to-turn-the-george-floyd-protests-into-a-new-civil-war

@LangCleg @Hildegarde_de_Bingen @HebrideanHecate Some of them. Others are Ron Paul-type Libertarians.I think the guy at Ruby Ridge was freeman-connected. I've also heard he was just a good old boy who went to meetings to socialize. The interesting thing (to me) is how the fringes of the GOP exploited their stories for decades until it's no longer fringe, and they've taken over the party. Hoooo doggie, there's some sh*t stuff in the good old US.

@LostInCalifornia @Hildegarde_de_Bingen @HebrideanHecate Thank you! It's hard to envisage a Venn diagram of the political groupings in the US - we only get very broad brush coverage here.

@LangCleg @Hildegarde_de_Bingen @HebrideanHecate Technically, the name "conservative" means a conservative view of the constitution with limits on government (no government health care!). "Liberal" means liberal view, with government assuming additional roles under the "general welfare" clause (government needs to sponsor / provide health care!).But we have a sh*t ton of conspiracy groups, some of which have roots in the political legacy of the confederacy, some in labor/socialist issues, some anti-government groups that grew up on both sides of the Cold War, etc etc and rich men who game them all to keep their taxes low, incomes high. Then there are the whacked cults, like the Sovereign Citizens and QAnon. All tucked into a country with racial issues, and the right to bear a semi-assault rifle.
