I forwarded this article by @kev to my little brother to see if I can get him to fire up a blog. He's a high school English teacher who is a prolific reader, motorcycle and mountain bike rider who coaches track and football. Oddly, he thinks I'm a better writer than him and he doesn't think he has anything to write about. Any words of encouragement? https://themeta.blog/how-to-start-a-blog-if-youre-not-a-nerd/

@mike @kev The only way to get good|better is to practice. Not writing is sure to lead to exactly one result: not being any good at writing.

@mike write a post and learn from your mistakes, that’s what the rest of us did.It doesn’t matter if you’re no a gray writer, i know I’m not! Being a great writer helps, but the message is more important.

@mike @kev Well if you write more than him you are a better writer 🤔. Tell him to start with a simple goal like 10 posts of about 500 words each. No frequency goal just 10 posts. Once that is done he'll know how he feels about blogging and will likely have more ideas. Topics is probably the hardest part when starting out but once you get going the topics start coming to you.

@mike @kev Good suggestions so far. If he isn't fired up by the idea of honing a craft, or helping to process the ups and downs of a day, just stop talking about the blogging itself. It's also about organising your thoughts, presenting your arguments, ordering your mind, and, above all, getting better at telling stories, which is something everyone loves to do, though certainly not exclusively through the writing word. He's a teacher, looking to engage teenagers! Required skill, I'd say!

@kev @mike Hi Kev. I'm Coralie who commented on your blog.Yes write.as is cool for now b/c it's super easy 2 get on w/ writing. I can feel some limitation if I want 2 make it a blog & site to make it nice looking like yours + if I want to change the order of the pinned articles I can't yet. But maybe the answer is the "IndieWeb" I looked into their [website](https://indieweb.org/). Would you care telling me how this could change your decision to come to write.as?Again, thanks for your blog.

@globcoco @mike mainly so I can interact with the community of other bloggers. If you look on my personal site, you will see some posts have “comments” where other people have replied to my post on their own blog.

@mike Sounds like he has lots of things to write about, but perhabs he don't think anyone is interested. A blog is the perfect place to talk about all the nerdy detailed stuff that makes you find motorcycles and football interesting.

Here is how I started to writing:I have been away from my family for long time and mentally overloaded. I started writing at least 1 word diaries in an encrypted virtual disk on my computer. I wanted to pour my thoughts to somewhere and couldn't trust the physical paper that could be opened by anyone.Everybody has things to write about. Something is written doesn't mean it has to be shared. This is 4th year away from my family. Those writings kept me going.@mike @kev

@kev @mike Nice feature. And that would be the main reason you stop using wp to go to write.as then?

@globcoco @mike write.as doesn’t have that feature yet. It’s available on Wordpress l, but requires a number of plugins and theme changes to get it working.I’m pretty happy with my blog at this point, so I may not even change if they implement the indieweb
