My email i use for work goes to spam for most of my customers. Could it be because im using plain text instead of HTML? Has it really come to that?

@Hawk1291 are you running your own email server?email deliverability is a full time job, it's usually best to outsource it.

@Hawk1291 I'm sending plaintext for all my mail, but I'm only running my own mail server for personal mail, not corporate. It depends on your setup, really, and even the ESP of your customers. Microsoft/hotmail is notoriously shit to deal with, for instance.Whether your mail gets accepted by other ESPs may depend on use of additional conventions as well, such as SPF, DKIM, DMARC and possibly others.

@tyil yes i have suspected outlook as well. Outlook on the receiving side that is. Im using webmail currently. I basically setup an @mycompanyname.com address so i didnt have compabyname@gmail.com or whatever else. Looks more professional but now i dont have much of an email at all. 😔

@Hawk1291 Microsoft by default considers everyone spam, and there's a form hidden deep in their messy documentation that you can fill out to have them check your mailserver IPs and kindly ask them to consider you to be not spam. This form appears to be here nowadays: https://sender.office.com/. Be quick, it moves from time to time. It's also not guaranteed that anything will change anytime soon. The (web)client you're using shouldn't matter too much, though it is technically possible this can influence things.

@tyil @Hawk1291 that form only helps if you are in their spam list. If you are running your own mail server you must be really careful that you follow every convention (HELO, Non dynamic IP with correct PTR, SPF, DKIM, DMARC). Also for your reputation you usually only want to send emails which are actually read by the recipients and you never want to send emails suddenly in bulk. Also showing presence and adding yourself to dnswl might also help for some email providers. Microsoft has something similar to dnswl: https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/addnetwork.aspxAnd after all that your reputation can still be hurt by others who share the datacenter. That's why I would never recommend OVH for hosting email servers. Because their reputation is pretty bad in that regard.

@riking i’m sorry but this is the dumbest thing i’ve heard in a while. the only problem with email deliverability is gmail’s continued existence.@Hawk1291
