It is hard for me to not scream at people when they eat animals. We are not cavemen anymore, it's paying someone to end an animal's life. If you wouldn't shoot someone or drive a knife into their throat then stop paying someone else to do it. Being vegan is absolutely the morally superior position and I'm tired of being surrounded by complacent people. Killing an innocent being for no reason other than enjoying the taste of their flesh is a hostile act of injustice. Show some empathy for others who share this world with you. It's really not that hard, and should be the standard behavior we expect from everyone.

@alex It's normal animal behavior. We're not exceptional in this regard. It's only because of our big brains that we've become so efficient at it.When vegans hold a decent chunk of world athletics records then maybe you'll have an argument that it's purely about complacency. But we're built to eat meat. If you want the world to stop eating meat, go get a degree in biotech and start working on the factory-grown stuff. Until real synthetic alternatives exist, things are just going to continue as they are.

@alex I'm not a vegen or whatever but I think growing meat is objectively better but for now I'm just going to eat meat they don't have any replacements in most of the stores near me

If everyone at least went vegetarian, then animal welfare would improve (back yard hens tbh) I might go vegan in 10 years but right now, no way. That said I drink rice/almond milk every day.

@Ox About 4 or 5 years. I was also an activist though. I entered slaughterhouses and helped break animals free from cages. We fostered about a dozen chickens and kept one, Angie, until she died. I gave speeches on the megaphone and did chants. Even flew out to Berkeley to attend the Animal Liberation Conference. I've done truck stops and vigils, even met Earthling Ed and drove him around the city. My life was crazy before I ended up here. Eventually the group I founded collapsed of purity issues. I feel like I could write a book about it. Anyway it had a big impact on how connected I feel to the subject and lead to me developing a much deeper empathy for our nonhuman kin.

@alex I don't say much about this, but I do think: the only way conditions for farm animals will improve is by regulation, not consumer choice. Many people who are not vegan support the ending of the worst abuses. Even my keto carnivore friends want to reform this "industry." Indeed, they don't care much about animals, but they care about humans, and it's becoming clearer to them that "animal agriculture" is dangerous to humans: the ones who work in "meat processing plants" (a horrible job that no one wants to think about), and humanity as a whole, since farmed animals are huge reservoirs of disease. They do not share the understanding of vegans or animal rights activists, but in terms of real-world improvement their participation imposing meaningful laws would go much, much farther than consumer choice. And in terms of consumer choice, meat becoming very expensive would reduce meat consumption vastly more than appealing to compassion. We are talking about homo sapiens here, and as frustrating as it is that we are a vicious dead-end species, that is what we are, and that's not gonna change. But laws regulating this horrible "industry" could.

@daveSince when is animal behavior considered normal for a human? And how many of us are athletes and how many consult biochemist on what their body is built for? (if you do, be ready to discover that they were not build for anything what so ever, and the builder was drunk, high and had no thumbs)Most peoples stance for meat is in essence the same as the stance presented here against it, personal preference/opinion, and if your argument is "I'm an animal, and you are not a biochemist" you're doing it wrong. Your run of the mill "I don't care", "fuck you" or "I love killing animals with my bare hands and eating their flesh raw" hold more weight.@alex here, for what it's worth, is at least genuine.
