@sir but that's not all, you get everything here without http support in the standards library

@sir I am new to programming and the features of Rust sound desirable, but I don't like some things like use of Discord as official communication, Google fonts everywhere, reliance on third parties for hosting, ties to Cloudflare, GitHub and some things I dont yet fully grasp like what you are saying here.Using Rust, would you recommend a noob to learn it? I thought I might learn a lot of good programming principals and it will be useful, but I'm looking for your critical opinion :)

@sir libgit2, curl, and libssh2 are dependencies of Cargo, not Rust itself

@val @sir The package / dependency manager has to download the stuff somehow, obviously.

@ytvwld @val they should implement these dependencies themselves, obviously

@sir It's annoying because Rust does have some interesting ideas, but it doesn't even have a specification. I'm always stuck on the question "Does this matter for me?" but when I get to that answer, new problems come to light.

@sir @ytvwld @val rustls hasn't had enough feature and hardening work on it to fully replace openssl, IIRC.

@unicorn @sir Using Discord for programming language sounds extremely dumbhttps://sneak.berlin/20200220/discord-is-not-an-acceptable-choice-for-free-software-projects/

@cuniculus @sir Using Discord for anything sounds extremely dumb...I'd love to like everything about Rust (because it sounds great), but I feel very uncomfortable with projects that are too close to or too dependant on big companies and closed source software. It kind of shows that the people behind the project share a different attitude that I find careless and dangerous :/That's why I'd like to hear an opinion from someone that uses Rust and shares more of my attitude.

@unicorn @cuniculus if you're looking to me as someone who uses Rust, don't. I really dislike Rust.

@sir @cuniculus I was not aware of that! I had assumed otherwise since I remember you were using it for a project of yours.I'd understand if you don't have the time, but would you mind telling me your reasons? I'd hate to put a lot of time and effort into this if there are good reasons to choose something else. I value your opinion on these topics so I would appreciate your advice :)

@unicorn @cuniculus sorry, I don't have the time. I dislike rust for a LOT of reasons.
