Let me reiterate this more clearly:Firefox opted users into sending all of their browsing history to a third party for the purpose of targeted advertising.

@sir Man this disappoints me so much. I try to disable everything I can but I feel eventually it's just gonna be built in. I don't like where this stuff is going. I am still going to use it primarily because I do not want Google's engine taking over the web. Most browsers now are based on Google's crap and I want to avoid a monopoly of control going to Google. But eventually something is gonna have to change :/.

@sir all that search data that Mozilla gave them will now likely end up in the hands of some shady Private Equity firm who will in turn monetize it and distribute it as much as they can.

@sir I guess the real question is wtf to do about the browser problem. It’s a doomed Herculean effort to attempt a greenfield project, so the most viable option is probably using an existing open source render engine and JS engine. Is Konquerer still a thing? Even if it is, it wasn’t cross-platform. I’m unaware of anything better than Firefox to recommend to normies.

@sir Additionally, Firefox has essentially a backdoor that allows Mozilla at any time to drop any code into deployed versions of __their__ browser. (Not using pronoun "your" there, you got me)

@foxcpp @sir For anyone using firefox, remember to set extensions.webextensions.restrictedDomains to "" (these are the domains where extensions are disabled) and set app.normandy.enabled to false (this is the backdoor I think, but there are likely more). Debian by default disables some of the telemetry stuff I think.

@middlepath @sir JMAP is Fastmail and it is open and good -- a HUGE improvement in performance and features over IMAP with lower latency and less bandwidth usage.Last I knew Google was going to move to it after collaborating on final design because Fastmail did a better job than Google's attempt at the same thing

@sir @middlepath IMAP was not originally push. And JMAP is push. It streams updates live to your client.IMAP is a terrible slow filesystem that only lets you operate on one file at a time

@cirno @sir Still a daily driver for me (see Badwolf, one year later).I think you can try it as a remplacement to a session-less[1] Firefox+uBlock₀.Things you could be missing is history and bookmarks (I use an HTML page for this right now). And a µMatrix-like thing would be great but unrealistic for now as even other webkit browser do not have it.

@sir.I dont like they bother all the time to sync bookmarks and passwords to their cloud. Why not to any webdav directory? That would be open and more userfriendly than setting up a sync server without proper documentation and many hours of try and error.Second why do they have google as search engine, not duckduck as default? No trust here.
