Hey GNU/Linux greyhairs, I need some help. I am trying to boot GNU/Linux on a 32-bit desktop PC (HP All-in-One), currently running Windows 7. It's too old to boot from USBs and I can't find any BIOS updates for it. I have some blank DVDs, but no access to a PC with a DVD burner that's already running GNU/Linux. It's so long since I burned a DVD on Windows, I have no idea what to use. I tried Infrarecorder, but no joy. Help?

@strypey It's a page for quickly installing Windows software in bulk, there are two DVD burning software programs on there, the one you already tried, and ImgBurn which is old but may work. No idea if it's free or not. There is also this: https://www.dvdfab.cn/resource/dvd/open-source-dvd-burners

@strypeyIt's not a terribly noob-friendly process. You need to set up a server on another machine on the network. But since I last did it, netboot.xyz have apparently created bootable server ISO images. Might be worthwhile looking at that for shortcuts...

Thanks for all your suggestions. Does anyone know of something I can boot from and then use that to boot from a USB? That way I only need to successfully burn one DVD, but I can try out a bunch of different live distros before I install. I used to do that with a PLOP boot floppy, but this PC doesn't have a floppy drive. @vik @dwaltiz @wolf480pl @guyjames @brad

@strypey Yeah, but if you try to load the ISO off a USB stick in qemu, same problem. I've only had the problem a couple of times, but it's a thing - remember the minimum USB 1.0 transfer speed is technically only 1.5Mib/sec and some Asian mfrs take that as a challenge. Last time it happened my laptop (trying to memload a 1.5GiB ISO before executing) from full charge ran out before booting had finished! I told my friend what I thought about his USB stick...@dwaltiz @wolf480pl @guyjames @brad

I made a PLOP live CD, which successfully boots on an HP laptop I have here, but the HP All-in-one desktop refuses to boot off it. I double-checked the boot order in the BIOS settings, it's definitely set to boot off the CD-ROM before the hard drive. Very frustrating. Maybe the PLOP CD image expects a 64-bit PC?@guyjames @vik @dwaltiz @wolf480pl @brad
