COVID 19 is one of these events that truly defines people and how they react to stress. One internet figure who I’ve read for the last few months is Ian Miles Cheong, who has a wobbly history in terms of where he stands politically.

With American citizens starting to lose patience with their state governments in certain parts of the country, anyone who has lived under the yoke of oppression can sympathize. Somehow, Cheong doesn’t, despite being from Malaysia, which isn’t exactly known for its spirit of freedom.

I’ve seen him show his authoritarian side by constantly mocking protestors in Michigan and claiming that they’ll only succeed in making people sick or people online who cite worse epidemics that didn’t warrant this level of societal control. He doesn’t get that people can only be quarantined for so long before they get tired of it.

He is unfortunately, in the same camp as Gorilla Mike and several other characters who have spent their social media capital on scaring people. People want to go back to work, watch a game at the bar, surf, skate and play basketball among other things. They don’t want to be told by a fake expert in everything like Cheong what to do.

I’m sick of hot takes and only being able to eat take out. I’m ready to dine in. Open up America for business and tell Ian Miles Cheong to mind his own.

@Argentum47 Certainly it is disappointing. As much shit as he got from the SJWs on the left and his conversion to conservatism. At some fundamental level that love of authority or faith in authority is still foundational.Same situation with Tim Poole. I think they believe that the people who are doing wrong on the left now are an aberration rather than the normal. That is a type of person, narcissistic or sociopathic, who sees a path to power by manipulating people's good nature.

@Argentum47 Jordan Peterson talks about knowing one's own capacity for evil and how mastering or overcoming that is what makes you good. Good people who don't know that they have the capacity for evil are easy to manipulate because they cannot conceptualize that their good intentions can lead to bad outcomes. These people are not actually good, but merely naive, and easily manipulated. Not just by the truly evil, but by ideological fools. I'm not sure how you wake those people up.

@mrbungle It’s how terrible politicians manage to get elected over and over again. Whether it’s an inner city politician playing the race card to get an extreme green law passed or even a deep red rural politician using religious language to push Internet censorship, their constituents think that only good things can happen.

@Argentum47 Yep yep. It's the source of that sayingBad times make hard men and hard men bring good times,Good times make weak men and weak men bring bad times. So here we are in the weak men part of the cycle. How bad do things have to get to beat the stupid out of the soibois? Will this be enough? The people bearing the worst hardship of this are already the ones who are tough. The people at the margins, the entrepreneurs and the people who's livelyhoods don't flow from the nanny state.

@Argentum47 I follow Ian as well, and have been wondering what is behind his panic frenzy. He's been snarky and dismissive of anyone who is against this lockdown. Just goes to show, everyone is a free thinker, until real freedom shows up.

@carolinacally Same with Therno. He wanted Trump to be a “Strongman” ie; an iron fisted dictator. That’s what a lot of these internet celebrities want. They thought Trump would be a genie who would grant their wishes of shutting everyone else down. Deep down they want to be the ones in charge. To see people refuse to be miserable and wallow in self hatred shows that humaity is not made in the image of Cheong, Ape Man Mike and the rest of these fraudsters.

@Argentum47 @carolinacally Cheong made no friends with his recent rant thread trashing protesters for not subscribing to a "social contract".Choeng needs to learn to never ever lecture to Americans about social contracts, especially if he's not one himself.

@MrHobbit @Argentum47 Yes he totally misgauged this situation. I saw this coming when the shelter in place orders started rolling out. My hair stylist texted me over the weekend, and is going to start doing in hone visits, because she doesn't own the shop where she works. This is a part time gig for her. She's gainfully employed elsewhere and can work from home. She's over the government telling her when she can earn money.

@mrbungle Pool is a tough nut to crack. Joe Rogan is much further along in realizing where the danger is.

@Argentum47 I think Rogan knows but keeps it on the down low for professional reasons.Would that make him a Vichy conservative? Pool is just a kid. An adultalescent. It's hard to break the conditioning, because you have to walk away from what you consider the whole world.

@Argentum47 When we first arrived from Vietnam, my dad would stick the US flag everywhere. This was the case from elementary to high school. I didn’t understand the excitement because no one else did that in our neighborhood (white and Hispanic).Today, I’m trying to figure out how to install a flag holder in a stucco wall. 😅
