friendly reminder that one of the reasons firefox got so big during last and this decade was because they put a shitload of crowdfunded money into ads it the beginningsadly this is how it is in this world, and no matter how awesome your new xmpp client or entirely new chat protocol with included client is, it won't go anywhere unless you advertise it

this was a full-page ad in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung edition of 2020-12-02, one of germany's biggest daily newspapersnew york times got a double-page ad two weeks later, on firefox 1.0's release dayno matter how big and orwellian internet advertising has become, it's also volatile. nothing is as persistent as expensive print and tv ads, especially if you want to reach the boomers

@lis I'm already thinking about Lunatronex advertising. Without advertising, I have no chance of even getting the "foot in the door" marketshare of 5-10% for my operating system.
