@Nora @HebrideanHecate Same here--I took a walk early this morning for a couple of hours in one of the three huge open spaces nearby and it was lovely; only started to see people toward the end when I was heading back. Where I am there still isn't much in the way of flowers or green leaves but it's starting to warm up, finally.

@DoctorDee @HebrideanHecate there's something so melancholy about it as well -- I'd love to be sitting in a beer garden drinking with a crowd. We're going to miss out on so much. At least we do have the few flowers and sky!

This is what I posted yesterday on another site. We are in lockdown, but outdoor activity (not "in a pack") is encouraged.Shelter in place. For me, that means here. Hearing the chorus of geese overhead in their tattered chevrons. Hearing wrens squeaking out their tinny lovesongs. Seeing a smudge of no-color on the mudflats. For this, I am grateful.@Nora @HebrideanHecate

@HebrideanHecate @DoctorDee I know the feeling - it's been like that for me for almost two years, since I'm an economic exile from London. One day, one day, we'll have spinsterfest and get everyone together x

@Nora @HebrideanHecate I do hope Spinsterfest happens sometime--or even regional Spinsterfest, since I think there are a handful of us relatively near each other in this corner of the world. Want to meet @Ladyfat 's piggies....

@HebrideanHecate @Nora Likewise--I'm not as a rule particularly sociable, and really do like spending time at home, so this is all pretty normal for me...but after 9+ days of not going out at all except shopping and walking even I am wishing for the chance to just go hang out at a cafe or something. I'm actually planning to do something I was thinking of this afternoon, though it was still a little too cold--I've got a sunny garden/patio area that is accessible directly from the street, and am planning to announce on the local website that I'm 'at home' on nice afternoons when I'm not busy; anyone who wants to just wander over and sit in the sun and chat would be welcome. I could offer tea or wine but it's probably better for people to just BYO if they're just coming from down the street, so no one needs to touch anyone else's stuff. And I'll even offer one Tarot reading per afternoon, to the first person who asks! We'll see, when I try it, if a) people are interested and b) this is something that's needed by anyone besides me.

@DoctorDee @Nora What I will be aware of is not being able to go to town now and then to meet friend for tea or a potter about. Well, I technically still could, as travel not banned, but train times changed andshe has a sick husband and etc, wiser not to.There's nowhere to go where I am anyway, so 🤷♀️

@DoctorDee @Nora Being an only child and a great reader I never minded being aloneAlthough one can have enough of everything after a while, but I amused to being alone and such like.I know some folk who can't be at peace or by themselves for halfa day though, so God knows how they would cope

@HebrideanHecate @Nora LOL yes exactly (I wasn't an only child but I was a prodigy so I may as well have been)--a day at home by myself has always been a goal to strive for for me. But yeah I literally can still remember the first time I really understood, via a roomful of people doing the MBTI, that there were actually people who WANTED to be around other people all the time.

@DoctorDee @HebrideanHecate I sort of need to be solitary 80% of the time- gimme a silent room and a musical instrument and I'm blissfully happy- but then when it's sunny and beautiful I want to be drinking and camping and walking with others. The quality of the company is important though.

@Nora @HebrideanHecate I don't have piggies--I want to meet the Ladyfat ones. I have just the handsome orange kitten (and now apparently a black and white cat named Milo who thinks, erroneously, that he lives here).

@DoctorDee @HebrideanHecate Ahh I meant @Ladyfat -- if you also had piggies I'd almost be suspicious- like they're a spinster pre-requisite. Whoever's piggies they are I demand to meet them. And your cats too. I want to meet them all.

@Nora @HebrideanHecate @Ladyfat I am really hoping kittenboy becomes more social--at the moment he's still pretty wary of people (except for one friend who stayed the night a couple of months ago that he seemed to have developed an instant crush on).

@HebrideanHecate @Nora @DoctorDee I was thinking about how much harder this must be for people in towns and cities. Being rural and working pt it won't have a huge impact and oh will continue working.

@Formermediocremale @HebrideanHecate @DoctorDee I think you're right-- it's lucky if things don't change too much. I'm exiled in a village till it's over, usually I'm up and down the country for work and in London on weekends, and I'm *itching* to be... even just on a train, heading somewhereorother. Being able to walk in beautiful surrounds is a godsend though.

@Nora @HebrideanHecate @DoctorDee Yes a good walk is so good for the body and soul. I am so lucky as we are so rural and I am not particularly sociable, (oh is more sociable) we will be able to carry on with me just working from home. Dd is the one who will feel it the most, but she is happy climbing trees and running on the tracks for now. She misses her friends from her activities she normally does though.

@fatlady has piggies?! I have only just worked out there are lengthy convos going on. Being very slow! These pictures are lovely. We all walked today in the sun, but so did the rest of this market town! It was like an escalator of family groups and very disappointing. For some, theres nowhere to go to be away from others. A lot come here from London and when you see exhaled vape you can see how far a persons breath travels. So hard to stay away.@Nora

@Nora @HebrideanHecate My 'negative brain' is saying 'what if you open your garden and you get some (male) old fart who sits and spews bullshit all afternoon and won't leave, or some mom with screaming kids (I'm going to say 'adults only' in my invitation--wish I could say 'women only'!), or some racist whinger who tells me this wouldn't have happened if we'd kept THEM out'...but I have to be bigger than that and just go for it. It's too easy for me to stay in my comfort zone, and this COULD be a benefit to more than just me.

@DoctorDee @HebrideanHecate You're braver than me but that's definitely a good thing- I have a feeling (even if there's one annoying old fart) it would be mostly older women. Getting out of one's comfort zone almost always pays off- you know, as long as it's not taking heroin or driving on the wrong side of the road or anything...

I am of course now getting paranoid that my mere having walked very briskly past people at canalside at a distance of less than 4 feet due to lack of space has exposed me to the virus 🙄

It also only reduces the chances of catching it by like 20-30% Ive just seen. I hate it, worrying whether I will be here to continue as a mother to my kids Plus worrying about extra conditions in my kids that put them at high risk So these precautions just slow the spread, not stop it @Nora

@knucker We can only do what we can do I guess, and the guilt and anxiety can't be helpful at all-- I'm sure the best thing for our immune systems is to try our best to stay calm. It's easier said than done though I know.

The amount of virus you are exposed to does matter. If you have been exposed to a tiny bit, you are unlikely to get any symptoms at all. It is not an either/or matter. Actually, being exposed to a very small amount, might even help build up immunity.@knucker @Nora
