I'm dating a guy who thinks that being bored is 'a sign of a life without inspiration.' This reveal is going to be fun.

@Gina boredom is great! More people should be bored. My best ideas have been born out of boredom.

@murtezayesil he is, he is way more interesting than I am. He speaks 5 languages, reads a book a week (in Dutch, which he only learned two years ago!), meditates regularly, has travelled all over the world etc. He's as smart as he is handsome. It's giving me anxiety honestly.

@cavaliertusky feels like I'm wasting my time though.Somehow I can't put myself to do anything useful or interesting with all this free time. I could be making videos, learn new web dev skills, or improve my video editing, or read a book for change. I'm just really unmotivated for some reason.

@Gina Canβt really recall the last time I was bored. But if one is bored, it gives opportunity to to think about a great many things and for many leads to good ideas. Boredom is just another resource ;-)

@Gina I definitely don't know you well enough to have an opinion on that but it does seem to me there are people who seem to expect the world to entertain them and there are those who seem to think the world entertains them plenty if they'll open themselves up to the wonders of the world.Worse comes to worse and I'm actually bored? Bam! there's an audio or ebook. Instant unbored.

@Gina Sounds like someone that's never had self-esteem, self-worth or depression/anxiety issues?Speaking as someone who HAS all of those things, motivating oneself is (in most cases) much more complex than a lack of inspiration. π€·ββοΈ

@Gina Being bored can be pretty good, it's important to be bored in this age of instant gratification and stimuli everywhere

@Gina Sounds like someone with ADHD/ADD. Being bored can spawn an amazing journey to explore things. Or, it can just be who you are. Take it or leave it.Also: You boulder, speak at least two languages, have a dog and run IT for a non-profit who uses open-source software instead of the cookie cutter solutions. Boring is a matter of perspective.

@Gina the statement by itself is a tautology at best, it requires further clarification, or otherwise is open to interpretation.Interpretation example 1:(Emphasis on boredom as an internal feeling, state of being, and inspiration - an external feeling/stimulus, a state of the world) it is not your fault if you are bored, you just need something or someone(wink wink) in your life to inspire you~Interpretation example 2:(Emphasis on the word life, as in "entire life") A singular event of being bored signifies an innate (genetic?) condition of uninspired person, I'm afraid you'll have to accept your inferiority and live with it for the lest of your life.
