I knew reality had gotten pretty cyberpunk, but this image really illustrates it powerfully. (source: https://thedorkweb.substack.com/p/tales-from-the-dork-web-4 )

@byllgrim >> [image]> i don't believe itYou know, I thought I was going to reply with a quick link, but then I started to doubt, too…One site claims it was one of the winners of National Geographic's 2018 photo contest https://photogrist.com/2018-natgeo-travel/But NG doesn't list it https://www.nationalgeographic.com/contests/travel-photo-contest/2018/winners#/prod-yourshot-1527368-11798474.jpg The Tribune Magazine reported on the picture and said it was submitted to NG but didn't win anything: https://tribunemag.co.uk/2019/10/from-wallsend-to-macauOh! Here's a place that interviewed the reporter: https://www.news.com.au/travel/destinations/asia/paul-tsuis-photograph-the-invasion-wows-internet/news-story/5a440d4a94fbfa1a722159a96dba9dc9

For anyone else who's curious, it looks like this is 22°11'42"N 113°32'46"E (R. Nova a Guia) facing southwest towards the Grand Lisboa hotel in Macau.

@codesections I've been reading William Gibson's Bridge trilogy recently, and that building seems like the closest we've gotten to the nanobot-constructed skyscrapers described in those books. Really, that whole image seems like it encapsulates a lot of the environments described by him.
