@beep Same in some parts of Europe. Sometimes people build houses big enough for two or three "nuclear" families so you have two or three generations living together. Especially common in villages.

@beep Yeah, personally I moved out for work and because my parents' place is too small for any sort of privacy (I'm also gay and closeted). I'm much happier since so I understand the US Americans. Living alone is the best arrangement I've ever had. Wouldn't make fun of anyone over living with family, though, especially if they're supporting elderly parents or being assisted with by them with childcare. It's just so practical.

@rewired oh yeah i also aim to live alone eventually but its just so weird how in america many times the fact that someone lives with their family is associated with failure. It has always bothered me.

@beep It's also common in India. America likes to make little workers out of the people, it's a perfect capitalist society where the family is only formed to produce more worker bees. 15 and 16 is the age when teens generally start working, at 18 they should be out of the house to work more and produce the next generation who will also work.Like this, America keeps the wheel turning, at the expense of the family and community. America suffers in terms of community and overall health, as well as mental health. But in return, America produces many worker bees, too busy surviving to challenge the status quo. It's disgusting.

Americans also keep themselves down in this way, by shaming and making fun of those who seek to form community and stay close with their families. Destroy the community and encourage the individualist mindset, and you will create brainless workers. It's disgusting.
