       @daisuke what? you don't believe this? I have a webm somewhere that explains this, but there are species of animals that are explicitly hostile -- in a large scale sense -- toward endangered species, and also, when humans just stopped hunting small and medium game, it left a rift which allowed those hostile species to take over, leaving less food and territory for an endangered species which was already spread thin. Back when this sort of hunting was rewarded (for pelts/skins) the goal of it was to keep populations in check so endangered and indigenous species were protected
