@watch4thedrop @Jaime @EarlThePearls @darksidedog Our Founding Fathers wanted a clean break from Old England to the point that they considered German and even "a new language". But swing it was impractical, they settled for none.Freedom of speech extends to the language in which we wish to express ourselves.English is our lingua franca for practical reasons only. Even the test administered in citizenship procedures is rudimentary.

@Jaime @watch4thedrop @EarlThePearls @darksidedog Of course, Teddy was a Progressive fascinated by the collectivist ideology of August Comté, ground zero of the French "sociologues" and proto-fascist.No wonder he wanted to impose a language, too.

@Debradelai @watch4thedrop @Jaime @EarlThePearls @darksidedog If there is one language that has been invented since the founding of America, it's American Sign Language! Yes, we have a Deaf teacher from France who helped starting the first school for the deaf in 1817. However, many of the students came from Martha's Vineyard as well as nearby native tribes. ASL is a mix of these three languages.

@Debradelai @watch4thedrop @Jaime @EarlThePearls @darksidedog In this article about Clerc, it is mentioned that "about two-thirds of today's ASL signs have French origins."I should be clear that this is regarding the vocabulary. The grammar and other depicting/spatial features are entirely American (not as in American English, but due to the invention by the Deaf community in America).

@EarlThePearls @Debradelai @darksidedog I thought at one point in our history, during the 20th century, our nation was considering German or English as the national language.
