A confession: I was raised Capitalist. I'm still very, very pro free market (although my idea of "free" now leans toward GPL instead of BSD). But every time I deal with a health insurance company, I feel myself leaning full-blown Trotsky. This is not a Free market.Today's indignity: I can't take a kid for their school sports physical more often than "one year plus a day", so if you got one last year after the first day of practice, this year you're even more boned. It's always something.

@tek that's one that always surprises me. If nothing else, it seems much harder to track! Once per calendar year matches everything else they do as well! The only possible rationale is to screw people.

@tek for-profit health insurance should be banned by constitutional amendment.

@ted Yep. I get that monthly is excessive, but "about a year, plus or minus a little bit" seems perfectly reasonable (and long-term cheaper if it helps head off costly illnesses).

@tek yes, the US health “system” stinks. You might want to see if your kid’s school offers free sports physicals. My school always did.
