@klaatu Listening to episode 336 right now. I rarely use markdown except for emacs org mode. Emacs has the ability to export your org markdown files to HTML, standard markdown, LaTeX, and .odf. It's great for when you want to quickly create the skeleton of your document.LaTeX is another good choice for document preparation. It does have somewhat of a learning curve but that's where TeX "IDEs" like kile and lyx come in. Once you get the hang of it TeX is no more difficult than HTML

@beegrrl I had the chance to use some LaTeX to impose some style on a pandoc conversion, and I liked what I saw. Might give it an earnest try soon. I love Docbook but I have no love for XSL.

@klaatu i was comparing the learning curve moreso than the actual implementation. XSL can be frustrating but my first languages were web langs so they hold a special place in my heart.One thing to note with LaTeX: you might not need a full texlive install (like 20 gigs), but if you try to \usepackage{foo} and the foo package isn't installed the latex compiler will complain or sometimes completely fail
