Any Canadians willing to help me out? Im thinking of visiting Newfoundland to hopefully get some good #Photography of the puffins. Is there a 'best time' to visit? Any good places to stay you can recommend?

@Mainebot thanks πŸ˜ƒand winter and I are kindred... I spent 4 years in a place that gets >300inches of snow and hits -30 to -40 Fahrenheit windchills β™₯d it so much it took all of my will power to be ok moving away.if Newfoundland is anything similar ID be a very happy human.

@kemonine i haven't been there, but i'm going to guess that spring is probably a better time than now, when there's probably ten feet of snow.

@kemonine it's not the cold. it's the snow. like, i dunno what snowfall is like this year, but it's not uncommon for maritime towns to run out of places to put the snow from clearing driveways and roads.

@kemonine Geeze, you'll need more then just Canadians for that, Newfies are not super common and its faaarrrr away from the rest of Canada. I think I know some on twitter though, do you have a birbsite account and want an introduction?

@lyliawisteria Very temperate...I lived in Houghton, MI USA for 4 years and that'd be kinda balmy for this time of year around those parts...

@kemonine that's why i said wait two weeks. February is often pretty brutal, and it's not uncommon to have at least a few days of -40 and wind combo bonus.

@gnomon @kemonine Other than "don't go this weekend", unfortunately not! Considering how close I am it's really a shame I know very little about Newfoundland.I know the puffins are seasonal, they live most of the year out at sea but they roost on the Atlantic coast over the summer. The best sites are supposedly about 4hrs out of St. John's, and there are also tours.https://www.townofelliston.ca/5ttd/puffins.htmlhttps://gem.cbc.ca/media/the-nature-of-things/season-55/episode-6/38e815a-0097cd1411a

@gnomon @kemonine Oh I guess that second link might be geolocked to Canada. Canadians aren't usually on the "good" side of geofencing.
