@diffractie @cute *cough*in the late 1800s, there was no such word as "pizza"the Italian immigrants just called them piesbecause that's what they are - lids are optionalto become more marketable (because Americans have a thing for apple pie), they began calling it the "tomato pie" soon afterat some point, everyone got pretty bored of the whole affair, and began calling them "pizza pies"lessons:1. a "regular" pizza is a tomato pie, by definition2. this means that pies need no lid3. therefore, deep dish pizza is more pie-like than "regular" pizza, and is thus more pizza-y (since pizza == tomato pie)

@toast @cute @diffractie Ravioli date to at least the 14th century, John Montagu wasn't born until the 13th of November in 1718, thus ravioli clearly predate sandwiches. QED

@desultory @cute @diffractiethe concept of a sandwich predates both raviolis and the word "sandwich"a sandwich was first made many thousands of years agoas humans have learned to add extra ingredients to the wheat before baking (see: egyptian bread, as one example), they have also figured out that one can add things to it *after* cooking tooduring the move from hunting-gathering to agriculture (while gruel came first, I recall there being evidence for bread existing before the transition completed), it would not surprise me if meat-rations were reduced, supplemented with flatbread, and that someone figured out to wrap the meat with it (thus making a technical sandwich)raviolis got nothing.

@toast @cute @diffractie Bread is just beer that doesn't spill all over the place if it's not in a container. Sandwiches are thus just snacking while drinking baked, thickened beer. Before you ask, quickbreads are beerless thickened beer. Ravioli know their place in the world, they don't need leavening to prop up their egos.

@desultory @cute @diffractie this can't be right because beerless beer is non-alcoholic beer, and non-alcoholic beer is beer that had its alocohol flexed outbut bread never had alcohol to begin with, so it doesn't match

@toast @cute @diffractie Bread lis leavened by yeast. Yeast produce alcohol as a byproduct of metabolizing sugar. Quickbreads might not have alcohol in them at any point, but they are just beerless ersatz thickened baked beer.
