“But Lexi, Australia is on fire, I want to donate to relief efforts, this is not the moment to talk about transmisia!”But it is! This is precisely the moment where transmisia hurts the most. Let me explain briefly why.

Imagine for a moment you’re trans (I know, right?) and you just lost your home. It all just burned down. You’re homeless and had to be brought hundreds of kilometers away from your community.

Your friends and neighbors get shelter. But you they just won’t let in because you’re transgender. Which is not something you can change.

So you have to sleep in the streets just because the organization that is supposed to help you hates you instead? How is that not important?Give money to relief efforts that will help _everyone_.

@distel there are openly anti-trans organizations, and there are donation lists being circulated that include these organizations. I don’t think discriminatory shelter organizations should receive money as long as there are alternatives, because even though I don’t know if they will actually reject people (I guess it will depend on which person you ask?), I don’t want people to have to take that risk.

@lexi is it known what the names of those bad organizations are?or is there maybe, a list of donation-worthy organistions around, that doesn't have them on it? this is a question not especially to you but to everyone who reads this, maybe it's helpful for people who just want to donate and don't have time for researching this.

@distel my recommendations are:For fire fighting efforts: NSW Rural Fire Service: https://quickweb.westpac.com.au/OnlinePaymentServlet?cd_community=NSWRFS&cd_currency=AUD&cd_supplier_business=DONATIONS&action=EnterDetailsFor disaster relief and recovery: Red Cross: https://www.redcross.org.au/campaigns/disaster-relief-and-recovery-donateAlso, there are local community efforts at https://www.emergency.nsw.gov.au/Pages/for-the-community/disaster-assistance/Northern-Fires-November-2019.aspx but it's a bit harder to find anything there.
