@byllgrim where's the quote from? (Nevermind, found it on https://gcc.gnu.org/install/configure.html )This is for building gcc, not building with gcc. I imagine you could "fix" this, if you wanted to dig into whatever script is having an issue with it.

@lwriemen It's just that, every time I touch something gnu, it is painful. They have some kinda empire-like love for everything similar to the death star.

@lwriemen The documentation is using terms without defining them, not even linking to definitions.Maybe those folks are just so deeply into it that they know every nook of the gnu world and so they don't need legible text.

@byllgrim Ok. You are right about that. At least advice/explanation is easier to get these days. :-)I've been thinking about the evolution of knowledge sharing. About 25 years ago, I decided to specialize in Shlaer-Mellor object-oriented analysis. Recently, I considered training in the context of the trainees' end product. I realized it has never been done.Things kept esoteric establish expert enclaves. Limiting expert numbers enables more consulting revenue.#capitalism

@byllgrim @lwriemen Sourcing the documentation is not the same as legibility.

@byllgrim @lwriemen it has got to assume familiarity with certain basic concepts of the language/tools/systems used. Documentation of a specific project can't also be a comprehensive tutorial for beginners. Also considering that the project in question itself is used to build the "entire world" since the "beginning of time", I would imagine coming up with a build system for it is not a simple task, and expect some obscurity. I've seen way simpler projects do way worse.

@namark @lwriemen well, apologists will always rationalize. You raise a good point, tho it doesn't absolve them from sin, in my eyes.

@rambeaucockius3 k, I'm on a computer now, and will bother to use a dictionary.Sourcing documentation, as in linking to further information? Are you being pedantic about that referencing is not about deciphering? If you mean something else, then maybe you wanna say it.
