more information isn't the same as complete information, or correct information, or useful informations. mass surveillance in practical application is going to lead to everything being done very poorly and large companies losing a lot of money

@icedquinn i guess if you want to make a targeted ad for pet food go to people who own pets, no problem there, it will work most of the time. but come on there are still rich and influential americans who believe russian memes put trump into office so, obviously they have no idea how anything works no matter how much data they have to work with

@bubblebobbletrueend i was sort of assuming by 'mass surveilance' we were talking about the fed or nation-state level AAA corps (don't vote to trust bust google or we'll tell everyone you talked to your backpage hooker on gmail):blobshrug: teslas are neat cars tho.

@icedquinn i was thinking more things like satellites which track the daily route of a cellphone so you can make a story of that persons entire day. that information is useful for innocuous purposes which are possibly not too harmful but even in that case assuming that data doesn't get sold to someone it shouldn't be sold to, even in the ideal situation where nothing goes wrong with that information it could still lead to wrong decisions being made with strong arguments for why those wrong decisions were "correct based on the data"
