It started with instances like the user Weev being banned for borderline fedposting, and Andrew Anglin being told to delete a Heather Heyer meme because Gab's hosting service at the time (I think) would pull the plug on the site if it stayed up. Torba also banned Paul Nehlen for doxing, and Patrick Little for multiple edgy posts about Jews. Each individual action could certainly be justified, but already then Torba had the tendency to make everything worse by being defensive or uncommunicative. After Browers' Synagogue rampage and Gab temporary being deplatformed Torba basically bent all over for the Feds, handing over user information and banning accounts at the drop of a hat. I suspect that at that point he was already moving Gab away from being a free speech site, and over to becoming a Christian Boomercuck safe space. He added a Block feature, after having long sworn to never do so (Gab already had a Mute feature), and made things worse by letting thin-skinned faggots ban people from ever even commenting on their posts. Torba himself became the most active user of this feature, banning almost every single one of his critics from commenting on his posts, creating a complete Echo Chamber for himself.Then he banned Lolicon, which could have been understandable if it hadn't been accompanied by Durbo screeching about everyone who disagreed with him being a demonic pedophile. From what I understand he from then on also intensified crackdowns on Nazis, edgeposters and his critics, before officially abandoning the cause of free speech with his porn ban. Apparently he has also said that he didn't consider flag burning to be free speech, so yeah, free speech on Gab is basically just speech that Torba approves of.
