@nekojanai hmmm. I have an old desktop that I was thinking of turning into a server, mostly as a learning experience and maybe add a lead in to something more serious. Looking at the specs listed in your profile I wonder how it will hold up? I guess we'll see.

@nekojanai I was thinking of trying to put a Mastodon instance on it, and maybe some kind of blogging platform, both for personal or maybe family use. It has a quad core cpu, 3.2 GHz I think, about 16 gb of RAM and about 2 TB of storage.

@Starcake also not that I have anything against Mastodon, but Pleroma is easier to setup and uses less resources, so yeah, but Mastodon is fine too, I run both, and Misskey (my favourite, ui wise), although I hardly use Mastodon lately.

@nekojanai thanks for the recommendation. I'll check out Pleroma as well. This instance is actually the first time I've used it. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to log in with the Tusky app.

@mewmew @Starcake personally I've given up on any app providing a satisfying experience, I just use the web client on everything, but that's just me. Oh I have roma on my phone, but just for the notifications, the ui keeps bugging out.

@sjw @nekojanai I'll have to check. I know I'm not on a business plan. For a while, I was working from home on a VPN and they started sending me advertisements about upgrading to a business plan but they never cut me off. I read that there can be some issue with port forwarding or something though.
