😢 took apart camera lens to see if salvageable after knocked off counter by a child. Nope. 3 tiny but vital plastic posts for screws are broken off. Everything else, glass, electronics fine, but these tiny bits of plastic are where the (metal !) lens mount screws on.

@dctrud Could #3Dprinting come to the rescue?

@Tayo @dctrud that's what I was thinking. Or if you're going to bin it anyway, could you even try super gluing the posts back in?

@rmgr @Tayo I did try the superglue. Unfortunately those tiny posts are broken off in a way that makes it pretty impossible (for me at least) to get them lined up. The threads only go into the broken part, not what’s left attached, so glued they carry the whole weight of the lens (400g) and need to be aligned perfectly.

@rmgr @Tayo was a bit of a gamble opening it up, as then the manufacturer wouldn’t accept for repair. But from past experience of repair on a failed lens (not dropped) they are more likely to offer a discounted replacement - that’s still $$$$$ and I don’t really want another of these ones. Have 2 other better quality but smaller zoom range lenses to use.... and probably just stick with.

@dctrud RIP lens. When you throw the screws away it's ok to accompany them with said child.

@dctrud Who's the maker of that lens? Seems like it's made pretty cheap.
