It's time for us to reclaim the slur TERF. Just as the Black Community has reclaimed the "N-word", just as the LGB community has reclaimed the "F-word", so must we reclaim the "T-word". I am a TERF, and I am proud to be a TERF!

Because right now it says more about the person saying it than any value it has being 'reclaimed'.Eventually it will be firmly acknowledged how the word is used and we need to be clear who was using it.Also it's a bollocks term (same as the N/F words I know)@glinnerismyhero

@Liesl_ I'm not saying anybody should use it! Just like the "N-word", people within the community should be able to use it, but it will still be a slur when used in a derogatory way by people outside of the community

@glinnerismyhero Nah, even if we pretend it's just an acronym it's wrong. I'm a Male (not trans) Excluding (not Radical) Feminist MEF 😁

So what the fuck is your point?Let's just leave it to the misogynists and homophobes please. Also what is this "community" you refer to? Do you mean feminists? Sadly quite alot of feminists are homophobic so that is no "community" I want anything to do with. I still get called 'terf' though, I guess it is guilt by association.@glinnerismyhero

@glinnerismyhero I don't believe slurs can be reclaimed. All it will do is encourage our attackers to slur us further: "Hey, they even call themselves terfs so it's totally ok".

@violetta Well, I think other communities have done it successfully. I figured self-defining as that would be a show of strength and would weaken the impact of the word when used by the opposition. But perhaps you are right.

@Liesl_ I'm referring to our community - people who refuse to be bowed by the tyranny of TRAs. I felt reclaiming the word would be a show of strength and would lessen the impact of it when used by the opposition - but maybe you are right, and it feels too raw to make such a change right now.

@glinnerismyhero it's not for me to say but I do feel as though it's a facsimile of misogyny, as someone who is trans I deplore whenever I see it used in conjunction with cries of 'phobic! As if these people know what true phobia is... I guess it's the same as my vein attempt at eradicating tranny, shemale and sissy, all slurs used by the trans AGP community themselves and none I'd entertain reclaiming.

@Candifluff Thanks for your input. Undoubtedly it is a misogynist slur. You may well be right that some slurs are simply not worth reclaiming.

@glinnerismyhero The problem with that is that most people that are called 'TERFs' are not actually TERFs. Feminists are inclusive of women who identify as trans/men/non-binary/whatever, in the sense that feminist campaigning is for the benefit of all female people, even if those people don't particularly want it. Feminists exclude men from feminism. Transwomen are 'excluded' from feminism and women's spaces because they are men, not because they are trans. Many feminists are not 'radical'. Many feminists involved in campaigns at the moment are just interested in protecting women's current rights and are not particularly interested in going beyond that. Some of them don't even describe themselves as feminists, but as 'women's rights campaigners'.

I'm a merf. Let's face it, saying terf makes us look like bigots (which is the point) when we just want men out of our spaces. @firebird2110 @glinnerismyhero
